Thank you for showing up last Monday in person and virtually. The action continues! This coming Monday, August 31st, there will be a community memorial and vigil held to honor Darryl Mount Jr. who was brutally murdered by SSPD 7 years ago. If you have been taking COVID precautions, please come out on Monday to support this action. All details on the poster. To reiterate, this is NOT a protest; it is a peaceful vigil and the focus will be on remembering Darryl’s life and honoring his death. UPDATE: While members of Pass the Mic work on addressing the violence at the hands of SSPD on Thursday July 30th, we wanted to update our community on the progress made in the Black mutual aid fund. So far, we have far surpassed our previous goal and are now at $7,300! This is great news and we are energized by the commitment everyone has shown to the mission of this fund. We ask you now to help us reach our goal of $10,000 before Sunday, August 9th. Do you think we can do it? Contribute if you can, and share!
Today marks the start of the fifth week since we all received the news of the end of on-campus semester. Pass The Mic has been silent during this time. This is because the people who make up our team and the communities we serve have been hit the hardest by this chaos, and many of us have a lot to deal with on the day-to-day. However, we are not ending the semester here. The Pass The team is working toward ways to continue putting out content until the end of the semester for you all. Stay tuned, and stay safe.💌

Bri: ✨Pass the Mic changed my life. Pass the Mic is where I was able to be whole for the first time at Skidmore. Where I could show up and be my best self, my worst self, and everything in between. I learned my strengths and my weaknesses there. My favorite thing about Pass the Mic has always been what I can do to help people be their best self, their whole self, and love and accept their worst self too. Pass the Mic gave me a space and a place and people. My greatest hope for PTM in the future is that the people leading are always people who care and people who are committed to themselves and to one another.✨

Amanda:🔅 I’ve always struggled to find the words that truly express just how much Pass the Mic means to me. I wouldn’t be the human being, storyteller, producer, daughter, friend.. Everything tbh.. I am today without Pass the Mic. So, I will give this my best attempt for all of you beautiful past and present team members, guests, supporters, and everyone else who have left their imprint on what is and continues to become PTM today ❤️
One of the most humbling and beautiful gifts I was given in just my 21 years of living, has been to witness something that began as an abstract idea in my freshman self’s heart and mind (very shortly shared alongside my fellow co-founders), transform into something that now contains and is sustained by the energy, love, power, and talents of an entire collective (now of 15 people 😱!!!) of incredible human beings.
Until this day, I’m still in awe by the the amount of trust and love that was given to me and this vision by my fellow co-founders and all of those original guests from Season 1. And I still feel like the luckiest person around for simply having received that trust and love all those semesters ago. Because without you all having done so, none of this would exist and so, I am forever filled with gratitude

Cristal: 🌀Pass the Mic has been so many different things for me. Acceptance. Validation. Community. Healing. Love. Critical accountability. Growth. The list is eternal. The Cristal I am today would not exist without the creation of this wormhole of radical love, creativity, truth-telling, and sweet sweet discomfort that was built from the ground up one stressful night in the ICC. I can’t put words to all the feelings I will feel once I graduate(???). But I know that PTM will have a piece of my heart for its eternity. Thank you to all the humans that put their trust and love into this space. Pass the Mic is yours too. ❤️🌀

Ajani: 🔅 Pass The Mic has helped me grow so much throughout college. Usually in the past I’d stay quiet and not even consider leadership positions, but it’s helped me to gain those skills and confidence to step out of my comfort zone. PTM has allowed me to support underrepresented people on campus by doing work that I love to do, brought me some of my closest friends at Skidmore, and given me a stronger sense of community that I was missing early-on in college. PTM’s evolution and current team continues to inspire me and has shown me that passion and teamwork can accomplish so much🔅
QLIC and Pass the Mic are collaborating and hosting Love, Paint, and Sip💫 It’s gonna be a night of communal fun, performance, for q***r people of color this Thursday, February 13th in LADD 106 ✨ This event is for specifically q***r people of color to enjoy a space full of art, support, and dialogue 💛 There will be zine-making, painting, spoken word, and other forms of de-stressing activities 🌻

I am both nervous and excited because my background is more in video editing than audio. 💫Bio: I heard about pass the mic in my freshman year when I was approached to be a guest for an episode. Naturally, I was apprehensive about doing it. I didnt know anyone there and I had no idea what to expect. When i got there the energy around the show quickly put me at ease. It was a collection of kind hearted, hard working people trying to give a platform to those who dont have one. So when i heard that there was an audio technician position open, i was eager to join. I thought it was a fantastic opportunity to apply my experience in audio engineering to a space that I enjoy.💫

🔆For our final episode of season 5 all four of our co-hosts; Mya, Rayyan, Amal, and Malcijah sat down together to talk about astrology. The conversation began with discussing how they all found out about astrology and which traits associated with their signs speak most to them. The discussion touched on which signs each person connect with and which they’d rather avoid. Amal - “hi all! I am Amal (she/her)!!! I am a junior from South Orange, NJ! I am a gender studies and political science double major and an IGR minor. I am the vice president of restoremore, Skidmore’s restorative justice club, im a peer health educator, and I am the assistant cohost on Pass The Mic this season :)”
