Under a controversial proposal in Massachusetts, incarcerated people could be incentivized to donate their organs and bone marrow in exchange for a swifter chance at freedom.

The legislation is formally known as  , and it’s described as “an act to establish the Massachusetts incarcerated individual Bone Marrow and Organ Donation Program.”

Through this program, inmates would receive the chance to have their sentenced reduced “on the condition that the incarcerated individual has donated bone marrow or organ(s).” Participants would specifically be able to receive between 60 and 365 days off their sentence.

The bill is sure to also note, “There shall be no commissions or monetary payments to be made to the Department of Correction for bone marrow donated by incarcerated individuals.” Additionally, “annual reports” to keep track of “the estimated life-savings associated with said donations” will be kept, if—read more at TheShadeRoom.com (📸: )

The federal government is closing in on the $31.4 trillion borrowing limit, meaning a high-stakes fight over raising the debt ceiling is fast approaching.

An estimate from the Peter G. Peterson Foundation shows the nation’s debt climbing above $31 trillion and within striking range of the limit set more than a year ago.

That doesn’t mean the debt ceiling will have to be lifted this week — or even this month. The Treasury Department can generally use what are known as extraordinary measures to put off an actual debt crisis.

But it’s clear the fight is edging closer, putting the White House on a collision course with a new House majority demanding deep discretionary spending cuts in exchange for any increase to the debt ceiling.

“I think this is going to be the defining moment of the year,” Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB) said, adding it’s “certainly possible that we’ll hit that limit this month, or next month.”

Interesting: New Indiana law authorizes people to protect themselves or their property by using deadly force in response to "unlawful intrusion" by a "public servant." The measure is essentially just a public-servant-specific amendment to the state's 2006 so-called Castle Doctrine bill, which allows people to do whatever they have to to stop someone from illegally entering a home or car. Indiana is reportedly the first state to specifically allow the use of force against police. The new rule was passed with a nudge from the National Rifle Association, which has pushed permissive gun laws around the country.

Starting Today, the three major U.S. credit reporting companies will stop counting paid medical debt on the reports that banks, potential landlords and others use to judge creditworthiness. The companies also will start giving people a year to resolve delinquent medical debt that has been sent to collections before reporting it, up from six months previously.

Next year, the companies also will stop counting unpaid medical debt under at least $500. The companies say these moves will wipe out nearly 70% of the medical debt listed on consumer credit reports.

👀Some large drug store chains are limiting purchases of emergency contraception to three pills per customer, company representatives confirmed to CNN.

Though CVS has "ample supply" of Plan B and Aftera -- two types of emergency contraception -- the company is limiting purchases to three per customer "to ensure equitable access and consistent supply on store shelves," Matt Blanchette, senior manager of retail communications at CVS Pharmacy told CNN in an email.
