MY RIDE OR DIE MAKEUP PRODUCTS:
• ‘Sunshine Drops’
• ‘Sky High Lashes’
• ‘Dull Corrector’
• ‘Cream Eyeshadow Stick in Nude’
• ‘Skin Food’ (technically no make-up but
whacking it on my face, particularly in winter makes everything better).

I also use cream blush and bronzer most days but chop and change between brands. **What would be on your list?** 💋👁️💋

GAME FACE. Competed in .london in-house comp on Saturday.

Though I train consistently, I haven’t had the time to give powerlifting much headspace lately. So I went in to the comp focused on trying to enjoy the experience (ie getting to lift with friends rather than on my own for once). Came out with this:

•Squat 110kg (pb)
•Bench 52.5kg (comp pb
•Deadlift 140kg (minus 10kg on my pb)

All in all better than expected and v fun! Thanks for the pics 💪☺️💪

SAY WHAT?! What do you mean endlessly turning something over in my head won’t make a blind bit of difference?!

These words from Alan Watts are certainly ones to remember when in the depths of self-inflicted despair. 🤯🧘‍♀️🤯

SAW THIS from and it’s been rattling round my head since; the idea of ‘life as is’ being enough. Makes me uncomfortable, which probably speaks volumes!

**What are your thoughts? How would giving up self-improvement sit for you?** 🫠🤔🫠

MY CURRENT MOTTO. Every now and then I get obsessed with an expression or idea. Recently it’s been this one which I heard twice in one day; on the and on .app and on the tv show You (which is actually really rubbish this series) and then latched on to; shamelessly shoehorning it everywhere.

Actively trying to STOP CONCERNING MYSELF WITH STUFF WITH DOESN’T CONCERN ME. So obvious, but so helpful to keep coming back to.

**What about you - any fave expressions that you are into? I also like ‘the best way to eat an elephant is a mouthful at a time’ when trying to face something that feels insurmountable.** 🎪🙉🎪

SLEEP. ‘Howwwww do you get more sleep?’ That’s the million dollar question! And the tiptop that gave me was this (drum roll please):

GET OUTSIDE IN THE MORNING.

Exposure to daylight early in the day sets our body clocks to begin to wind down 14 hours later.

I’ve been testing it out on the family over the last few days and it definitely helps.

**Listen to this week’s for more on the science sleep, tips for encouraging it in kids and also me singing the praises of 6pm dinner. ** 💤🛌💤

RECOVERY. For anyone struggling after a traumatising labour this is proof that it can be different.

Things that helped me:

1. requesting to see my birth notes from my first labour and being able to talk through them with a midwife so I could gain a rational understanding what had happened and why.
2. And therefore being able to rationales that the challenging labour wasn’t a reflection on me; I hadn’t failed.
3. practising hypobirthing so that I really understood the physiological steps of labour and had tools (like breathing techniques) to pull on when going through it again.

**Anyone else have a positive birth after a tough one? What was it that help make the difference? ** 🤰🍼🤰

CAMPING IN FRANCE. Hive mind, give me your best tips for campsites in France pleasseeeee.

We went to last year and highly recommend it, though I think we were particularly lucky with the weather.

I’m torn between wanting to go off the beaten track or time to embrace the Eurocamp vibe. All suggestions welcome.

**Will reshare a similar post I did for campsites in the UK. It’s a really handy resource.** 🏕️⛺️🏕️

THE UGH’. Feeling a bit self concious about sharing this one. We are all well versed in ‘The Ick’ these days, but what about ‘The Ugh’ tiny moments of sadness, panic or shame.

**Why am I sharing these? I guess as a reminder that we all, even as fully grown adults, feel these feelings and they aren’t much fun. What about you? What’s give you ‘The Ugh?** 😩😔😩

AMATEURS. Shots from the day we thought we’d ‘just look behind a piece of wood’ in one of the alcoves in the sitting room and ended up covering ourselves and the entire contents of the room with a thick layer dust…. one of many many mistakes along the way.

IF IN DOUBT DON’T REMOVE THE WOOD/WALL/BIT OF TILE without someone who knows what they are doing looking first.

This comes from the woman who also burst a pipe and smashed a window with a crowbar. But who is also trying to keep this as a ‘grown-ups only’ space - feels like a contradiction in terms. 😳💥😳

STAIRS. Reinstating the original staircase has made a huge difference to the flow and light of the house.

Hats off to our carpenter too - it’s a job which took craft and incredible patience.

The top rail on the newer bit needs staining… along with many other jobs on the snagging list. 🪚🪜🪚

TRANSITIONAL TIMES. The last week, in the lead up to moving house on Saturday, reminded me so much of the days before having a baby. And also the summer of 2001- waiting to go for uni. Here’s my attempt to capture a very particular displaced feeling.

**Please share with anyone else navigating a no-man’s land. It’s a weird place to be.** 🌌✨🌌

SO LONG OLD MAN. We put our darling sausage dog Derek down on Sunday night.

The intensity of the grief has floored me and how much the pattern of our daily life has shifted (no saving leftover dinner, no more shutting doors before going to bed or weaving a walk into our day).

He saw us through: 3 homes, getting married, 3 kids and the transition from footloose 27 year olds with no clue, to 40 somethings with a lot of responsibility.

Plus the timing of his death so close to our move feels poignant too, I can’t comprehend that he wasn’t destined to come on to the next chapter with us. Sometimes life changes all at once.

**We’ve all been feeling all the feelings, but one thing I told the kids, that is helping me too, is how these special pets really do stay with us don’t they? I still think of ‘Coco’ my childhood chocolate Labrador decades later and I already know the same will be for our special D-Dawg .** 💔✨💔

[AD] HOW DO MY KIDS SEE ME? I asked my boys to take my photo to show you this swimming costume which is made from 13 recycled plastic bottles…

and is what he took.

I actually love it. I hope it captures how he sees me. So often I worry they the mum who “has work to do”, who is nagging them to tidy up or restricting screen time or has a head full of a 1000 things.

But here I am being mum who let them go down to the beach at sunset - I hope it’s this happy & relaxed version me they remember.

**Regatta has now recycled 9.9million plastic bottles to make their ranges. Their ranges are kinder for the planet and really comfy too.** 💕✨💕

FIRST SCHOOL SHOES. Worn with PJs, obvs. Watching her proudly do and un-do the straps, I vividly remembered how that felt. My earliest memory of a sniff of independence and ‘being grown-up’.

Our littlest heading off into the big wide world. How did that come around so fast? ❤️🥰❤️

REAL LIFE HOLIDAY SNAPS. Don’t be fooled. Behind the beautiful, life affirming bits of any family holiday there also many many parts that are unglamorous and frankly a bit exhausting.

While want to remember the good parts, but would be doing us all a disservice to pretend the other doesn’t exist.

**Who else’s holidays are a mix of amazing and amazingly stressful?** ☕️📸☕️

RELOCATING. It’s August, which means we move house to the Kent Coast this month. It’s a weird thing to see a crossroad moment in your life come towards you.

My current coping strategy is… actually I don’t one apart from going back and fourth between sad and excited. Advice please.

**Have you moved recently? How was it? Best bits? Toughest bits? How long did it take for your new place to feel like home?** 😭💖😭
