Merge Back to School Youth Rally
LIVE — MERGE: BACK-TO-SCHOOL YOUTH RALLY from Life Tabernacle Church in Baton Rouge, the Church That Never Closed, for 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2023. The pastor is Rev. Tony Spell. Services are held each week at 10 a.m and 6:30 p.m. on Sundays and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.
This evening’s services are being produced by Woody Jenkins for Central City News.
Life Tabernacle is one of the few churches in America, which continued having regular church services throughout the Covid19 pandemic. Pastor Spell was arrested, put in prison, released, fitted with an ankle braclet, put under house arrest, and ordered not to hold church, but he has not missed a single service since the lockdown began in March 2020! In fact, between him and his grandfather, Bishop Bervick Spell, they have not missed a service in 64 years, more than 3,300 weeks, and nearly 10,000 services! For the two years, Pastor Spell faced criminal charges for holding church services contrary to the Governor’s orders. However, on May 13, 2022, the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled the governor’s actions shutting down churches and imprisoning Pastor Spell were illegal and unconstitutional. The court dismissed the criminal charges against the pastor.
Life Tabernacle operates from a beautiful 41-acre campus at the corner of Hooper and Blackwater roads in the City of Central, Louisiana, just outside Baton Rouge. It is a multi-racial church where everyone is welcome. On Sunday morning, church is held in seven sanctuaries on the campus. Most adults worship in the main sanctuary. Children are welcome there too but most attend one of the six worship services for children of a specific age and sex. The message in the children’s services is the same as in the main sanctuary but designed for their age level. The bus ministry, supported by 43 buses, reaches out into the poorest areas of South Louisiana from Lafayette to Baton Rouge to New Orleans. The broadcast ministry reaches more than 7 million peopl
