🎨 ’Lesya Ukrainka’, 2020

Lesya Ukrainka (1871-1913) is one of Ukrainian 🇺🇦 literature's foremost writers. She was also an active political, civil, and culture activist. Pioneer of the Ukrainian feminist movement.
Recently, thanks to the analysis of her intimate correspondence with Olha Kobylianska, she has also become an icon of the Ukrainian LGBTQ+ community.

Polish festival premiere of my ’Mon chéri Soviétique’ documentary at the 19th Millennium Docs Against Gravity:

May 18th (Wednesday)
18:30 at Kinoteka PKiN
Warsaw

Debate following the screening in partnership with Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej w Warszawie / Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw

The film is made of hundreds of photographs telling a story of the last Soviet soldiers leaving Poland in 1990s.

The focus of the work is the figure of a soldier — who is not fighting on the war front, but takes off his uniform in front of a camera.

The author of "Mon chéri Soviétique" supplements photographs from the past with contemporary film material in which he reenacts past events.

The narrator of the film, an elderly anonymous citizen of Wrocław goes back to the beginnings of 1990s and tells a story about the photographer and his life’s project. He describes a world in-between communism and capitalism through a lens of Polish gays’ relations with Soviet soldiers: through their q***r friendships, thrilling love affairs, but also gossip and legends.

The film is an attempt to save an uncomfortable, suppressed archive that was destined to destruction. An archive that builds q***r memory.

Dears, my friend Vasiliy is originally from Mariupol, the city that Russians are bombing non stop for the last 3 weeks.
💙💛💔
He is safe in Lviv at the moment but need to rescue his family (5 people including two grandmas) and organize their transport from the besieged Mariupol.

Vasiliy is a young artist and we met in Kyiv in 2018. He was posing for me and one of the photos portrayed him was part of the posters project initiated by Wolfgang Tillmans.

To help saving his family I proposed Vasiliy a little help by offering you one of the photos from those Kyiv days.
👇🏼
You can bid in comments here or DM me and I will be posting the amount anonymously. We started on my instagram and it’s 400 € now.
This private auction will finish this Sunday midnight.

The final sum I will donate directly to Vasiliy. Please be generous let's make this help real.

Nasta Rojc (Bjelovar, 1883 - Zagreb, 1964) is one of the most important Croatian female artists from the beginning of the 20th century.

She mostly painted portraits, self-portraits, landscapes and seascapes. With Lina Crnčić-Vivant she founded the Club of Female Fine Artists in Zagreb and advocated in equality of male and female painting.

She was married to the painter Branko Šenoa but she divorced him and spent the rest of her life with her partner British army officer Alexandrina Maria Onslow. Alexandrine was an exceptional woman, famous for testing the boundaries of femininity, thus opening Nasta up to her true nature.

Rojc and Onslow were imprisoned together by Croatian fascists in 1943. In prison she drew on toilet paper. She ended up dying in poverty in the 60s.

Painting (based on Rojc’s self-portrait) from my open ”Gallery of Portraits” (2020-) series portraying the most prominent non-heteronormative figures with focus on Central and Eastern Europe.
