Earlier this year, a wave of concern spread across social media following the first study to measure metals in tampons showed they contain arsenic, lead, and other heavy metals.

In the new study, researchers analyzed the levels of 16 metals in 30 tampons from 14 different brands. They found 12 of those metals, including toxic ones, in all products tested. Despite tampons being on the market in the U.S. for more than 90 years, the study authors think this is the first time anyone has tested them for heavy metals.
