The style of the writing will generally be fiction, however we will explore other styles including but not limited to memoir, travelogue, epistolary novella, soft-core poetry, musical obituary, lumbricoid cookbook, anatomical field guide, and bombmaking. In addition to being a magazine, Off-Brand Humor Magazine will become a forum for aspiring humorists to develop and showcase their writing talent

Weekly meetings will consist of the reading of a published piece of humor writing (by established humor authors such as David Sedaris, Woody Allen, Simon Rich, etc.) a lighthearted “analysis” of the piece and its achieved humorous effect, and then an inspired workshop session for club members to develop and collaborate on their own humorous pieces. The magazine in question, comprised of club members’ work and occasionally that of a worthy outsider, is to be published approximately twice quarterly. I have here typed “FAQ” rather than “FAQ’s,” on account of the fact that I have, thus far, only been asked ONE QUESTION, and it was asked with EXCEEDING FREQUENTNESS {in the most petulant whine that I have ever had the misfortune to hear, I might add}.]
How are you different than the Shady Dealer? Good question, as***le! The Shady Dealer, much like the esteemed “Onion,” is a parody magazine. While it is, like Off-Brand, a humor publication, it deals in a unique branch of humor (parody). I might here add that while The Shady Dealer is more of a unified deal (much like the newspapers which it parodies), Off-Brand Humor Magazine seeks to be more of a showcase for the individual works of individual humorists who wish to develop their own pieces. Like, there’s not going to be a “theme” or anything to any of our publications, it’s just a release of contemporary humor writing being cranked out at the U of C.
