The Chinese government announced on November 24, 2023 that it will implement a 15-day visa free policy for Malaysian citizens holding ordinary passports who enter China for business, tourism, family visit and transit purposes.

The policy will be in place for at least a year, from December 1, 2023 to November 30, Malaysian citizens who intend to stay in China for more than 15 days or travel to China for other purposes such as study, employment, permanent residence, etc. are still required to apply for visas to China.

To apply for a Chinese visa, Malaysian citizens need to fill out the visa application form online and submit the application in person at the China Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching, Penang or the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu for fingerprint collection.

The visa waiver policy is expected to boost tourism and people-to-people exchanges between China and Malaysia.
