Using LPC's Civic Media Playbook
Students who attended a media literacy program developed by Black Iowa News and BTG1619, developed with the Listening Post Collective's Civic Media Playbook, said they primarily receive news from social media sites like TikTok and Instagram but admit they don’t know how to find out whether the information they read is accurate.
“It’s coming from random people. I don’t know if it’s real or fake,” said participant Hyumi Yang, 17, a North High School student.
That's why Black Iowa News is creating ongoing opportunities for Black Iowa youth to talk about their communities and information needs. #medialiteracy #news #blackmedia #Iowa #informationgardens #newsdesert
