Bside Incoming: Ziggy Zeitgeist

For our 147th show, we are honoured to bring you the impeccable selections of Ziggy Zeitgeist.

Boy were we excited to listen to what Ziggy would send us. Being both one of the leading names in the nu-soul/future-jazz scene as well as an avid record collector, we knew we would be in for a treat. He's the drummer for the Australian based band 30/70, who have released some creative, liquid smooth blends of jazz, modern funk, hip hop and soul on the likes of Rhythm Section and Moontown records.

Now living in Berlin, he has pushed his sound in modern jazz via his band - Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, creating some truly stunning and intricate music. Bside Incoming: Marie Midori

Bside Incoming will transport us, once again, to Berlin. This time we’re meeting with a DJ renowned for groovy basslines and trippy melodies, you’re certain to discover some new sounds on an extra-terrestrial voyage with Marie Midori!

Her musical journey includes childhood mixtapes of 90s music, guitars around the campfire on her scout adventures in Slovakia’s forests, and busking on the streets of Dublin, all before throwing herself into the craft of DJing.

Her late 20s, marked by an obsessive compulsion for collecting music, defined her sound which is at once hugely varied and totally distinctive: eerie electronica, breaks, otherworldly sounds.

Her contribution to the Bside series really is a gift - a venture into her more downtempo, dystopian and somewhat hypnotic records that she doesn't often play out, yet still infused with an energy that urges you to move.

Next up, an Irish artist to keep an eye on. He’s a producer, a DJ, and a singer songwriter who’s gained approval from the likes of Kaidi Tatham for his relaxing sometimes melancholic melodies, hip-hop grooves, and his stunning voice: so, a warm welcome to Brién!

After earning his stripes in Chicago, Minneapolis, Hester’s prowess behind the turntables only strengthened with a move to Berlin and an increasing interest in producing his own tracks:

This week’s episode of Bside Incoming, invites a Brighton based duo to show off their favourites, old and new, from the flip side of their record collection. It’s Cortese.

Their career was kickstarted by their 2019 release of ‘Renault Sport’. Since then, with releases on Shall Not Fades sub label Tin White and Fort Romeau’s renowned Cin Cin label, Cortese have cemented themselves as serious producer’s of the underground scene.

It is always a pleasure to explore the depths of such talented producers’ collections, and hear the sounds that inspire them: From techno rollers to lo-fi house, Cortese bring a deep and dark energy with warm synthy overtones.

Bside Incoming: Gallegos

We’re very pleased to present the latest instalment of the Bside Incoming series from Bristol based DJ, Producer, Record Collector, and ‘Room Service’ Label boss: Gallegos.

He’s plenty of experience behind the decks, as the founder and resident DJ of SHAPES in Bristol, where he’s warmed up for some of the very best in the business: Carl Craig, Omar S, Deetron and Move D. Since his debut release on Banoffee Pies in 2017, he’s maintained a steady stream of original and infectious dance records including his ‘B45’ EP which was featured by Chaos in the CBD for their essential mix. Gallegos now has an imprint of his own called ‘Room Service Recordings’, with his first release on the label providing a fitting conclusion to a Bside episode which explores the influences that brought him to where he is today.

Known for his dance music sets, but always unrestricted by genre, Gallegos is revered for his versatility and unpredictability. So, what a privilege to have excellent history of his broad musical influences, hip-hop, disco boogie, breaks and beats samples, Balearic, house and techno reminiscent of the Bristol rave scene, and an episode packed full of passion and nostalgia.

Bside Incoming: Estimulo

We’re delighted to touch back down in Berlin to hear from one of the city’s most stalwart deep-house supporters. A two-hour exploration into the collection of a man searching for the soul in all things electronic music. We give the warmest of welcomes to Esti, known widely as Estimulo.

Esti’s entry into music was one of intense curiosity: chopping up radio recordings from a young age and assorting them into mock radio shows of his own. Borne from an unquenchable thirst for groovy electronic sounds, and after becoming infatuated by “The Big Beat on Fridays”, a radio show active in 1988, he set upon a quest to collect as many house records as possible. This emphatic drive led to his dabbling with pirate FM radio in 1990, when finally, Esti could broadcast the sounds he loved with his neighbourhood. Though sadly, his childhood dream was cut short by the authorities soon after...

Esti, however undeterred, soldiered on with a smile, and the spoils of his devotion are evident in the thirty years that have elapsed since then. He now operates a long-standing record label and internet-radio show, Mixomat Recordings and the EstimuloShow respectively, and has performed in some of the most revered institutions in Europe: namely Tresor, Berghain and ADE. These such outings have also led to performances alongside esteemed acolytes like Gerd Janson, Fantastic Man, Shed and I-F.

For someone with such a colourful career in electronic music, you’d expect his early influences and musical ventures to reflect in his Bside episode, and they certainly do. Staying true to his innate connection with deep electronic sounds, Esti guides us through curious downbeat IDM, emotive house and Italo, woozy two-step, and juddering, euphoric breaks. Proving to us that he can indeed find the soul in everything.

Bside Incoming: Tech Support

This week’s episode comes from one of Brighton’s brightest prospects, Ned Dickinson. Ned has been producing under multiple aliases since his late teens, but has since found lasting comfort in his leading moniker, Tech Support.

A DJ/producer who began self-releasing his earliest creations through Bandcamp, Ned’s earnest artistry wasn’t going unnoticed: his hip-shaking, deep disco groovers like ‘Sweetest Pain’, and pulsating house jams like ‘Endlessly’, soon enticed the likes of Black Loops, Laurence Guy and Late Night Tuff Guy . Since then Ned has aligned himself with such respected labels as Dansu Discs, HOMAGE, and Nerang Recordings who back in 2017 pit Tech Support against our most recent guest, J Wax for a producer showdown… the jury’s out on this one.

Four years on and Ned has only expanded his palate. His keen interest in dub and reggae is mirrored not only by his latest release, but in the opening tracks of his Bside episode, too. Finding immense satisfaction in the “slinky drums” and expansive dreamscapes personified by his dub techno and downtempo selections. Ned’s a crate-digger at heart, and we need no persuasion as he moves naturally through chuggy balearic beats, Italo realms and soulful disco cuts.

We’re looking forward to seeing what’s next for Tech Support, but in the meantime we’ll be plugging in to this charming crusade through his record bag.

Bside Incoming: Third Son

We’re certainly excited to bring you another episode of Bside Incoming, this time from a prolific producer and extremely talented DJ from London. Only seven years on from his debut release the impressive quantity of his output is only exceeded by its quality. A very warm welcome for Third Son.

His passion for music has always been at the forefront of his life, and his drive to create the best music he can undeterred. His father, a professor of music, ensured his classical training began from an early age. This served to bolster his enthusiasm with a deep knowledge of the art, and would later become very useful when his inspiration for electronica was sparked by Radiohead’s ‘Kid A’.

As evidenced by a huge array of releases, and this episode of the Bside podcast, his love for electronic music blossomed. His knowledge combined with his curiosity for the experimental elements of dance music never fails to impress.

Bside Incoming: Moving Still

The latest instalment of the Bside Podcast comes from a prolific producer of Irish and Saudi heritage, he’s a familiar face on the Dublin scene, and an artist dedicated to the importing, editing, and sharing of music from Arabia. It's Moving Still.

It is always a pleasure to be guided through the most treasured music of such a passionate collector, finding lots of new tracks and interesting tales along the way. Many of his selections have served as inspiration for his own work, which seeks to unearth his roots while stamping his own modern mark on the style with electrifying bass lines and acid tones.

It is little surprise, given his penchant for the exploration of Arabic music, that Moving Still would begin a collaboration with our past guests Dar Disku in 2019 when he released his bass heavy edit of the wedding classic Bas Ismaa Meny and the hugely infectious disco rework of Sidi Mansour.

Bside Incoming: Gebrüder Teichmann

Today we have a treat for you, two brothers who are incredible artists with firmly planted roots in Berlin’s underground scene since the late nineties. We welcome Andi and Hannes, or Gebrüder Teichmann.

The duo have some serious pedigree with their father being the incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist Ulrich Teichmann. Their musical passion has bloomed with electronic music and now they play many of Berlin’s best clubs like Berghain/Panarama Bar, WMF, Watergate, Bar 25 as well as their regular nights at Su***de Circus since 2009.

Their artistic outreach also has a strong global dimension with the formation of intercultural electronic ensembles like Karachi Files (Pakistan/Europe), BLNRB (Nairobi/Berlin), and Mondmaschine (Mexico/Central America/Europe).

Bside Incoming: Temple Sniper

This time we’re staying close to home with a Glasgow based selector. He’s certainly no stranger to the local scene with his Syncopate nights running at Flat 0/1 and Broadcast, his appearances on the wonderful Clyde Built Radio, and the founding of his very own imprint called Noctambulant Sound. We warmly welcome Temple Sniper.

While working hard to promote local artists with his event series and record label, Temple Sniper has proven himself as an excellent DJ and producer in his own right. Check out this recent production of his named Post Dub:
