May is both Huntington’s disease and ALS Awareness month. I believe that true awareness involves more than simply knowing that something or someone exists. It’s more than knowing intellectual facts and data. It’s more than knowing something. It’s FEELING something. Awareness is about empathy and compassion. Its not simply noticing another person’s pain or experience. It’s imagining what the joy, grief, losses, love, and struggle of another human FEEL like. And then having the capacity to not look away. To stay and be with. To ask, How can I help you?
