Michael Rey de Leon is an audio engineer, record producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Austin, TX.

As a first call engineer for live broadcast & streaming concert events, Michael Rey has worked with a myriad of recording artists, such as Brazilian Girls, Charlie Hunter, The Bad Plus, Joshua Redman, Washed Out, Future Islands, The Polyphonic Spree, London Grammer & Hiatus Kaiyote, to name a few. He apprenticed as a studio technician under acclaimed guitar tech Andy Brauer, setting up equipment in-studio for guitarists Larry Carlton (Steely Dan), Steve Lukather (Toto) & Michael Thompson (Michael Jackson), then as a engineer assistant at the Record Plant, Hollywood, where he was an understudy to Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Eminem, Alanis Morrissette) & Stoker (Ice Cube, Sting, UB40) whom he assisted in studio on recordings by Ice Cube, Mariah Carey, Macy Gray & Marc Anthony. Today, Michael Rey owns Colorsounds Recording/Mixing/Mastering, a production studio specializing in live & post production audio, as well as sharing his knowledge about his mixing, engineering and recording techniques as part of the faculty at the Ernest Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin. Michael Rey is known for his balanced, modern sounding mixes, with clear vocals & massive drum tones.
