New Orleans Calling is for the hundreds of thousands of people who previously had no idea that the Crescent City would have a hook in them. This program wakes up that New Orleans’ sense of spontaneity and joy inside people. Using interviews and stories, with immersive audio production, and a special segment of exclusive live music recorded for broadcast by WWOZ, we are bringing the listener to New Orleans. New Orleans Calling offers an audio experience that sounds as authentic and right to a listener in the Crescent City as much as to someone halfway around the world. WWOZ first started streaming online in 1995, solidifying the station as a lifeline to New Orleans for the thousands of listeners who love the city and our music, but for whatever reason are not – or cannot – be here. Over half of WWOZ’s membership support comes from listeners outside the state of Louisiana. This giving is a testament to the role that WWOZ plays in people’s lives.
