PDP Guber Candidate In Anambra, Ozigbo Calls For Nnamdi Kanu's Release

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming election in Anambra State, Mr Valentine Ozigbo has called for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Ozigbo made the call when he spoke at the 2021 Anambra gubernatorial debate hosted by Anambra Broadcasting Service, (ABS) in Awka on Sunday.

Ozigbo attended the debate alongside; Col. Geoffrey Onyejegbu (Rtd), of Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Dr Chidozie Nwankwo of the African Action Congress (AAC), and Chief Akachukwu Nwankpo of African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Ozigbo said Kanu should be released by the APC-led federal government and that a non-violent and diplomatic means of addressing the calls for secession should be adopted.

He said: “Indeed, Nnamdi Kanu should actually be released while we go back to the root cause of the agitation.

“I always focus on the root causes of problem-solving. We can’t be addressing a problem from the symptoms, an efficient way to address any crisis is to deal with the root.

“Why the agitations? If you think deeply, you’ll understand that it is because Nigeria is not working. Our leaders have failed us. The sense of hopelessness brought about by poor governance pervades the land.

“There’s a lot we need to do to get Nigeria working again. The poor road networks, decayed infrastructure, failed social systems, a devastating healthcare sector, a shrinking economy, lack of opportunities, and many more manifestations of poor governance leads to the question of ‘Is there any need to be part of Nigeria, anyway?” Ozigbo said.

As a way out of the current crisis, Ozigbo called for a fresh approach to leadership. He said that Nigeria must focus on raising the competitiveness of the country, among other solutions.

“We must do away with nepotism and entrench competency. We must restructure Nigeria to be more just, more competitive, and more inclusive,” Ozigbo demanded.

The PDP candidate who is among the top contenders in the forthcoming poll used the opportunity to also unveil what he called his revolutionary ideas for transforming the state in education, healthcare, economy, social services, and other key human development indices.

FG Files 7-Count Amended Terrorism Charge Against IPOB Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

The Federal Government has filed an amended seven-count amended charge against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The amended charge, which was filed by the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, borders on treasonable felony and Kanu’s alleged involvement in acts of terrorism.

The embattled IPOB leader will be re-arraigned before trial Justice Binta Nyako on Thursday.

2023: If We Allow Igbo President Nnamdi Kanu Will Force Him To Declare Biafra – Dokpesi

Raymond Dokpesi, the founder of DAAR Communications, has disclosed how the agitation for Biafra by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has affected the chances of the southeast producing a Nigerian president.

Dokpesi disclosed that some Nigerians believe that Kanu would force a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction to declare Biafra.

He said the IPOB leader may use militant tactics to blackmail and force an Igbo President to declare South East independence.

He stressed that Kanu and IPOB have complicated the agitation of the Southeast to produce a Nigerian president.

Dokpesi, in a statement he issued on Monday, stressed his belief in a united and indivisible Nigeria.

The statement reads partly: “The emergence of IPOB and its influence across the South East has complicated and undermined the agitation for patriotic Nigerians of Igbo extraction to lead this nation as far as the 2023 election is concerned.

“If nobody has told Ohaneze Ndigbo before, the concern today from some other regions is that if Nnamdi Kanu plays the role of Aguiyi Ironsi in leading a militant revolt against constitutional government in the southeast under Igbo presidency, the president will be pressured by his base to facilitate the UN processes for the South East to call for independence from Nigeria.

“Thus an Igbo President may be compromised in protecting the political and geographic boundaries of Nigeria whilst Nigeria remains under the threat of IPOB’s secessionist activities.”

Prior to his rearrest, Kanu had led the agitation for the actualization of Biafra.

While in the United Kingdom, UK, Kanu was pushing for the actualization of Biafra by engaging those he could across the world.

He used Twitter and Radio Biafra more in spreading his Biafra messages across Nigeria and the world.

Federal government of Nigeria should release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from custody - Deputy Speaker of the 7th legislature of Anambra state, Rt. Hon. Dr. Paschal Agbodike

The Deputy Speaker said the federal government should release the IPOB leader because he is a freedom fighter and that Ndigbo were solidly behind him.

The lawmaker was of the opinion that agitations were caused by lopsidedness in revenue sharing formular, lopsidedness in federal appointments and suppression of the Igbo race by government at the centre.

JUST IN!! Court issues trial notice on Nnamdi Kanu’s treason charges

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday officially issued a trial notice for the October 21 prosecution of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, in the treasonable felony charges brought against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The trial notice entitled “Federal Republic of Nigeria Versus Nnamdi Kanu” was marked FHC/ABJ/CR/383/15 and served on Kanu’s lawyer, Mr Ifeanyi Ejiofor and that of the Federal Government Mr Shuaib Labaran.

DAILY POST on Monday sighted the notice, signalling resumption of full-blown prosecution for the IPOB leader.

The one-page document showed that the court carefully and explicitly spelt out the dos and don’ts for lawyers of the contending parties to avoid an abortion of the trial which commenced in 2015 when Kanu was first arrested in Lagos upon arrival from the United Kingdom.

The document read in part, “This case will be transferred from the General Cause List to the hearing paper for Thursday 21st October 2021at 9 o’clock forenoon and will come on to be on that day if the business of the court permits or otherwise on some adjustment day of which you will receive no further notice.

“If either party desires to postpone the hearing, he must apply to the court as soon as possible for that purpose and if the application is based on any matter of fact, he must be prepared to give proof of those facts.

“The parties are warned that at the hearing, they are required to bring forward all the evidence by witnesses or by documents which each of them desires to rely on in support of his own case and in contradiction of that of his opponent.

“The proof will be required at the hearing and not on a subsequent day, and parties failing to bring their evidence forward at the proper time may find themselves absolutely precluded from adducing it at all, or at best only allowed to do so on payment of substantial costs to the other side, and on such other terms as the court fits to impose.

“Parties desirous to enforce the attendance of witnesses should apply at once to the court to issue one or more summonses for the attendance of the witnesses required.

“It is indispensable that the application should be made so as to allow time for reasonable notice to the witnesses required.

“If the witness is required to bring books or papers, they must be particularized in the summons sufficiently to enable him to understand what is meant.

” Any party summoning a witness through the court thereby becomes liable to pay such witness reasonable sum of money to be fixed by the court for his expense and loss of time.

“The court may refuse to enforce the attendance of a witness unless such sum has been fixed and deposited in the court.

“If either party desires to use in evidence at the hearing, any book or document in the possession or power of the other party, he must give the other party, reasonable notice in writing to produce It at the hearing, failing which he will not be allowed to give any secondary evidence of its contents.”

Kanu is expected to face the trial before Justice Binta Nyako.

Breaking news:Unknown gunmen have attacked the popular 135 police station in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The suspects were said to have freed all the detainees within the custody of the Police.

gunmen stormed the station around 2am on Monday morning and shot sporadically before proceeding to release all the suspects in custody which local sources said are more than 30 in number.

The gunmen further set the vehicles within the premises of the affected Police Station ablaze.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP
Loveth Odah who confirmed the attack in the State added that one police officer was killed during the attack.

According to her, the police station was attacked at about 11:50PM of 17th October, 2021.


She the popular 135 Police Station was burnt, one patrol and one exhibit vehicle were also burnt during the attack.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Aliyu Garba had visited the place to ascertain the level of destruction even as he spoke with traditional Rulers and relevant stakeholders on possible ways to beef up security in the area.”

JUST IN!! Igbo Lawyers Association Demands Release Of IPOB Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

Igbo lawyers Association has revealed its true position on the trial of Mazi Nnamdi kanu coming up on 21 October, 2021.

Kanu, who is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB - has been in detention since June, after he was arrested in Kenya and extra-renditioned to the Nigeria by the Country's secret Police.

The IPOB is billed to appear in court on Thursday 21, Oct, but unconfirmed reports says the Nigerian secret Police, DSS may not produce him just as they did the last time he was supposed to appear for his trial.

Rising up from its meeting, Igbo Lawyers Association, ILA, demand for the DSS and the court to grant Kanu a fair hearing, having committed no offense known to law.

The group in a communique signed by the coordinator, V C Onweremadu and the secretary, Felix Jonathan - demand the IPOB leader be produced in court and grant a fair hearing.

ILA however, said had the federal government dialogue with the IPOB there wouldn't have been tension in the region. Its calls on President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government to give a listening eye to the yearning of the group rather than designating them as terrorists.

The full communique read...

1. Igbo lawyers Association insist that Mazi Nnamdi kanu must be produced in court come 21st of October 2021. As our group will entertain no excuse for his unavailability in court on this day.

2. We Caution the Security Agents to respect the wishes of our people who are to sit at home on that day and nobody should be harm, arrested or molested. Let the Security Agents be reminded that it was during a peaceful rallies conducted by unarmed youths at various points in the South East during which rallies our people who were merely praying for Mazi Nnamdi kanu victory in court on that day were gunned down by trigger happy Security Agents. The bloody onslaught continued in Afo Mkpo where many were murdered in cold blood.

3. Let the World be put on Notice that these death has not be swept under the carpet, that the killings must be challenge in court soon.

4. We emphasise that what the group is craving for is justice, and fair hearing for Mazi Nnamdi kanu and his release from detention without further ado. Mazi Nnamdi kanu has not committed any offence known to law through his peaceful agitation, the Federal Government having failed woefully to engage them.

5. Today Northern elders have maintained serious influence and discrete bargain with the FGN to look into the demands of Bandits, BokoHaram and Monstrous Fulani Herdsmen and attention is descretly being given to their demands but IPOB don't deserve the mercy and attention of the Government, those effectively agitating/exercising their constitutional guarantee rights to self determination are being killed like flies by Nigeria Security Agents.

6. We Put the Government on Notice that Igbo Lawyers as a group will be sending delegates of senior lawyers in solidarity on that day.

7. Our people want to see Mazi Nnamdi kanu hale and hearty on that day and consequently regain his freedom which will substantially douse the rising tension in the south east.

8. Condemn in most strongest terms the continue detention of Mazi Nnamdi kanu and demand for his immediate and unconditional release because he has committed no offence known to law.

9) It is pertinent to note that our group is getting regular briefing from Ifeanyi Ejiofor the lead counsel to Mazi Nnamdi kanu on the development in the case in Abuja .

10) Igbo lawyers Association will continue to fight for the justifiable cause of Igbo man in where in the country.

Sit-At-Home: Private Schools Turn Saturdays To Working Days In Enugu

Some private schools in Enugu State now hold classes on Saturdays following the ‘collapse’ of academic activities on Mondays as a result of the sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra.

The group instituted the order to press home their demand for the release of their leader Nnamdi Kanu.

Some of the school proprietors interviewed by TheWhistler warned against mentioning their names and their schools for security reasons.

One of them, located at Emene, Enugu, said, “It is an internal measure adopted by the school management and the parents to make up for lost grounds. The academic curriculum runs whether we go to school or not. And the pupils and students write the same external exams as their counterparts outside this region.

“Instead of allowing Mondays to waste just like that, we devised a means. Our supposed academic activities on Mondays now hold on Saturdays.”

A principal of a private school, along University Market road at Nsukka, on condition of anonymity, said, “We won’t allow the education of our children to die just like that. As such, we deliberated on the way forward, and converted our Mondays to Saturdays. That is the only way we fill the vacuum of the sit-at-home. We wouldn’t like to risk any child’s life.”

A parent, Cajethan Odo, said, “It is to the advantage of pupils and parents. We pay the school fees accordingly. So, we commend the school authorities for the innovations. I am personally happy.”

A pupil in one of the schools said she was happy. In her words, “On Saturdays, we come to school. We learn what we usually learn on Mondays. I am happy because all my friends come to school.”

Uzodimma of Imo State has renamed the popular Heroes Square Stadium in the heart of Owerri, the Imo State capital, after the late Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu, the first Military Administrator of the Old Imo State.

Breaking news: IPOB says no sit-at-home Monday, Tuesday

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, has disowned a purported statement that it has directed a sit-at-home next Monday and Tuesday.

It, however, said that sit-at-home would be observed on October 21, in solidarity with its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is expected to be in court on that day.

The separatist group in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, entitled, “Ignore fake news on sit-at-home on Monday and Tuesday,” described the claim as a fabricated statement by mischief-makers.

The statement reads: “The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, ably led by our great and indefatigable leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn to the fabricated statement being circulated by mischief makers and paid agents of darkness that IPoB had directed Biafrans to sit-at-home on Monday, October 18; Tuesday, October 19; and Thursday, October 21, 2021, for our leader, and one year anniversary of protest.

“We want to make it categorically clear that the purported statement did not emanate from IPoB, and we completely dissociate ourselves from such falsehood.

“IPoB did not issue any sit-at-home except on October 21, when our leader is expected to appear in court.

“We, therefore, urge members of the public to ignore the purported statement and utter falsehood being peddled to create confusion and demarket IPoB.

“Their intention is to portray IPoB as a violent and insensitive movement, but we know their antics, and shall beat them to it’’.

“For the sake of clarity, IPoB has not called for any sit-at-home except on Thursday, October 21 when our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will appear in court in Abuja.

“Biafrans will solidarize with him by staying indoors on that day because we are all in the struggle together. He did nothing to deserve any persecution by the federal government.

“We warn all those behind this rumour to retrace their steps and stop tarnishing the good image of IPoB.

“As a responsible and responsive movement, we stopped Monday sit-at-home in the interest of our people, when we discovered that hooligans and paid agents of death wanted to hijack the opportunity to unleash mayhem on our people.
