We're back for the New Year (I know its not Friday)! All hail the King of the Jurassic, Allosaurus! Possibly one of the biggest theropods, (but likely not) this dinosaur was a very succesful hunter. Many fossils have been discovered, which means scientists have had plenty to study. Its descendants got even bigger, and would eventually for a time rule the world!

And continuing with the original naming convention. Ornithschia, or 'Bird Hipped' is what scientists used to describe certain types of dinosaurs that later turned out to NOT become birds. Think Triceratops and Iguanodon.

The name 'Siats' comes from Ute mythology. Luckily we never had to come face to face with this monster, but if we did I'm sure it would certainly live up to its name of 'Man Eating Monster'. Chech out the channel for the video on this awesome theropod.

Dinosaurs have been around for a long time, we've even know about them for thousands of years. But Scientists finally started to notice these gigantic bones that started appearing everywhere. And, in 1841 Sir Richard Owen named Megalosaurus, which so happened to be the very first named.

Famed Paleontologist Jack Horner, once suggested up to a third of all known dinosaurs never actually existed because were likely the same. For example some scientists believe Torosaurus and Triceratops to be the same dinosaur, just adult and junior forms. The same was thought for Nanotyrannus and Tyrannosaurus Rex. There are likely many more examples!

I always found this to be a cool fact. The bones of dinosaurus were inspired mythical tales of ancient creatures that terrified our ancestors and fueled our imagination for centuries. Put yourself in their shoes for a second. If you had not long discovered fire, then coming across an enormous leg bone or more terrifying yet a gigantuan tooth would have been the stuff of nightmares. Not knowing if there were more of these creatures lurking around!

Ok, ok... I know its not friday, my bad. But rather late than never! This week's features the awesome I think as most people know it was a massive theropod. Even a contender for the largest theropod ever to exist, but yes even in 2022 this is a controversial topic. Team Spino? Team Rex? Who cares? Let's just appreciate this awesome creature for what it was. Just that, awesome! Spinosaurus lived in the early to mid stages of the Cretaceous period, in the lush rivers and lagoons of ancient North Africa. It was likely amphibeous living in and around water, catching and eating giant fish that were unlucky enough to cross Spinosaurus' path. Swipe to find out more about this interesting dinosaur! ➑
