SPOTIFY PRE-SAVES - WHAT ARE THEY AND WHY WOULD I WANT TO DO IT?
One of the biggest players in the music industry is Spotify.
One of the reasons Spotify is a huge player is playlists. Getting on a big playlist is kinda like getting played on a big national radio station. It can get your song heard by people all over the world! The more followers of the playlist, the more potential for people to hear it.
What's a pre-save and how does that help me? Pre-saving essentially connects your Spotify account to unreleased music. So, the day of release, you get notified the song is out and can be among the first to check it out.
Does it help the band if I pre-save? YES, YES and YES. How? Well, as we try to get on bigger playlists and bigger opportunities, many of the people making decisions for those opportunities look at Spotify statistics. Including pre-saves. So, if I want to get on a giant playlist, they want to see how much interest the band can generate on their own first. ie, how many pre-saves do you have?
Spotify has all these great analytics to tell us how many fans are listening, how often they are listening and cities where fans are listening from. Unfortunately what Spotify DOESN'T offer is the ability for you to pre-save a new release before it is out.
So, in order to do a pre-save, we have to use a 3rd party site like show.co or Distrokid. When you click a button to pre-save that 3rd party site sets your Spotify account as a follower of the band and sends you an email to remind you when the new song is out. Awesome, huh?
But what about that disclaimer saying they are getting my email address and going to make changes to my Spotify account? It's not as scary as it sounds. In order for that 3rd party site to perform the pre-save, they HAVE to make those changes. That's all they do.
So, by you pre-saving, you are making sure you are among the first to hear cool new music from your favorite artists AND helping that artist get on bigger and better opportunities. Both on and off of Spotify.
Hope this helps!
