They shared many an adventure, and weathered many a storm, from hurricane Mitch to cancer. Listen to our conversation.

A hard lesson learned in the recent storm. My working jib was caught by the wind, unfurled, and completely shredded. I was so focused on the dock lines that I neglected the rigging. Boat is fine, just down one headsail. I’m almost done beating myself up about it. On to dreaming about a new jib… just not the expense part. I can’t thank my friend Lauren on enough for alerting me to the situation (she took this photo) and helping me douse the rags in 40 knots of wind. Anyone need new telltales? 🫤

With the Annapolis Boat Show a wrap for this year, I thought I’d share this article from the very first show in 1970. My parents were both quoted in the Evening Capital, a daily Annapolis paper from the time…. “I like the idea of no motor boats or camping gear,” said Sid Shaw, from Washington, D.C. “You can thank Annapolis for us,” added Mrs. Shaw. “It's very interesting,’ Shaw continued, “I like the fact there are so many different kinds of boats - it’s a good chance to see a real variety. For people who like sailboats, this is the place.“ #1970
