Dawndy Mercer Plank WIS TV is kind, strong, knowledgeable and fearless. A joy to be around in the newsroom.
I’m so glad I got to work with her for the years I did, and will miss her around the newsroom.
My ending to a blessed story.
This is where it all began. WBAY TV in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Today, I officially step away from the anchor desk after 35 wonderful years in television news.
Being in news was a dream of mine since sixth grade when I just KNEW that's what I wanted to be when I grew up.
When I came to WIS in 1992 after three years in the Green Bay market, I felt from day one this community was a special place.
Though a five-year stint in the Houston market took me away for a bit, WIS again became my home giving me a total of 27 terrific years here.
So, what's next? I'll be an independent contractor doing talent work and projects for a few different clients - one of which is Lexington Medical Center.
I'll be a wife! My patient husband, Craig, has been so supportive of my career, but I want to see what it's like to actually get to eat dinner together and not roll in exhausted every evening at 9 p.m.
I'll be grooming and riding horses without the stress of having to get cleaned up and into work.
I'll train for the next marathon and triathlon without the pressure of having to focus on breaking news alerts.
And as many of you know, I am determined to master the French language, so classes are in my future at USC to work toward a minor in French.
Je suis enthousiaste à ce sujet.
Leaving WIS TV is, by far, one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make. But it's time. And that's why this news comes to you just hours before I “turn in my key” to my news team. I wanted every second to pray and be convinced this is the right time to exit.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens."
Now is my time to move on.
Please know how very much I have considered it an honor and blessing to be your anchor.
Love you so much!
Dawndy
