My Story
I am passionate about telling stories through video and visuals. I have 20 years of experience in international broadcast television, filmmaking, and video production. I also enjoy teaching others new skills in live video production and cinematic storytelling.
I started doing video production in the summer after my senior year of high school. The year was 2000, analog was still king and high definition was just a twinkle in its mother's eye. I began volunteering in our church's video department, learning all I could about camera operating, video directing, graphics, video editing, and everything in between.
Shortly after that, I began freelancing in corporate AV and live television. I started out as a camera operator and grip, then quickly moved to directing, editing, and running camera cranes like JimmyJibs and CamMates.
In early 2007, I took my first international trip with a client to shoot a documentary teaching series. For 42 days I traveled through 6 European countries, shooting in some of the most historic landmarks in the world. Since then, I have shot films and videos in 19 countries across 3 different continents.
In the fall of 2009, I traveled to South Sudan with a fresh water well drilling organization to shoot a short film documenting a day in the life of a young Sudanese girl named Jina. We followed Jina as she walked six miles each day to get water from a muddy hole in the ground for her family. The film, titled Ru: Water is Life, has gone on to raise over $2,000,000 for the organization and win multiple accolades from many film festivals.
In 2011, I began working at a young and growing non-denominational church in Texas as the media and tech director. I led all of the video production, media volunteers, graphic design, stage design, and web. For the next few years, I helped the church grow from one to two campuses (connected every week through live video streaming), add an entire multi-camera broadcast system, and grow the volunteer team from 10 to more than 30 volunteers.
At the end of 2014, after almost 4 years of working full-time for the church, I returned to full-time freelance video production and started this new phase of my career: teaching others everything I know about video and storytelling. And that leads me to now. This is a result of many years, tens of thousands of hours, and a passion to help others learn new skills, find the right gear, and tell better stories.
