As the new school year begins, I’m incredibly thankful to be able to homeschool Levon (and Sareen)….well now I am. 🤣
Don’t get me wrong, it took me months of going back and fourth with this decision. Months of research and asking so many questions. My stomach literally felt like it was in knots thinking of the reality of homeschooling.
“I don’t have the time!”
“I don’t have the patience.”
“I’m not qualified or have the skills!”
“I NEED structure and I NEED textbooks/curriculum!”
“What if there’s a subject or topic I can’t teach/explain because I just simply don’t understand?”
“What if he falls behind when he’s been so academically ahead and advanced?”
“I feel so bad, he’s going to miss out on his fun elementary years.” -(total lie from the enemy. Masks all day, things aren’t the same anymore in the classroom setting- let’s be real)
And so on…
But let me tell you something, as parents WE are the most influential people in our kid’s lives. And let me tell you another thing, all of those negative thoughts were all coming from the enemy who wanted me to stay in my comfort zone. He wanted other influences in my son’s life. He wanted my son to be at school from 8am to 3pm. He wanted my son to be told what to do and not be taught how to think for himself. To be a “worker” not a thinker. He wanted the outside influence on my son. More time to indoctrinate him. 5 days a week. 7 to 8 hours a day.
Levon was very lucky to have wonderful teachers in the past whose morals aligned with our family’s. But he struggled a lot around other kids. I noticed his behavior starting to changed a very negative and unfamiliar way. He started getting into trouble, following other kids. He participated in bullying something I am extremely against. But it wasn’t until he came home and told me “Mom, did you know that boys can marry boys?” A topic I was not ready to talk to my 5 year old about.
As homeschool parents we have the freedom to choose what our children learn and how they learn. In my house, we don’t co-parent with the government. And in my house we serve the Lord! And in my house we are thankful to live in this wonderful country!
