Greta Gerwig to head 2024 Festival de Cannes Jury. She will be the first female U.S. director to serve as jury president. Gerwig said in a statement that she was "stunned and thrilled and humbled" to be selected.

The winners of the 36th European Film Awards were revealed on December 9 in Berlin. Among the winners in various categories, were 15 female names, including directors, producers, scriptwriters, actresses, visual effects, makeup and hairstyling specialists. Most of the wins went to the French drama Anatomy of a Fall and its director Justine Triet.

The 34th European Film Awards will return to the German capital, home of the European Film Academy, on 11 December 2021.

This year 14 female directors and screenwriters: Justine Triet, Agnieszka Holland, Lea Glob, Hanna Badziaka, Anna Hints, Kaouther Ben Hania, Buda Flóra Anna, Susanna Flock, Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren, Molly Andi Amy Manning-Walker, Malene Choi, Chiara Malta, Sarolta Szabo and Gabriela Łazarkiewicz-Sieczko are nominated for European Film Academy in various categories.

Also the Academy will honour Spanish director Isabel Coixet with the award in European achievement to world cinema at the ceremony on December 9 in Berlin.

She now holds the box office record for women directors, which Patty Jenkins last set with "Wonder Woman" in 2017. That film raked in more than $800 million.

The New Zealand-Australian director Jane Campion returns to the big screen and has all the chances to win her second Oscar for The Power of the Dog. Campion is currently leading industry polls for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. It's the closest she's come to the Oscars race since her 1993 film The Piano, which was nominated for eight The Academy Awards (including Best Director, the second woman of seven ever nominated for that award) and won three (including Best Screenplay for Campion).
