After Day 7 of Principal Photography on Life Cycle 63, we had two days off! Well, our cast and crew had two days off while we re-set and prepped for the next filming push.
On the first break day (after sleeping in past 5am, of course), we went over the upcoming filming schedule and discussed the scenes that had to be dropped, and if anything could potentially be fit back in.
We cleaned costumes, fixed damaged props, and did some set dressing for our upcoming scenes. Jordan also ran to the store to get some last-minute supplies for costume fittings; two of our actors were flying in today and had fittings and rehearsal scheduled for the next day.
That night, Phillip met Adrian Paul, the actor that we signed on very last-minute to replace our actor who had to drop out unexpectedly. Adrian only had about 4 days of notice for this job, and saved us by being able to show up!
While Adrian and Phillip discussed the film and the character for his role, Tim, Matt, and Jo got dressed up in costume and went out to dinner too, just so they didn’t feel too left out. 😜
The next day, October 21st, we had Robert Catrini and Adrian Paul at the studio. They went through wardrobe first, and Joshua Soran and Jordan got busy making alterations and last-minute additions to their costumes.
Then Adrian, Robert, and Phillip did a walk-through of their scenes before Tim joined them for rehearsals.
It was a full two days!
We were now half way through our largest chunk of filming days, but this was just Phase One of Principal Photography. We still had 4 months of filming ahead, and had only just finished a year of set construction and planning. It was a crazy year, as noted by Jordan dropping down to 107 pounds when she weighed herself that day... 😬🫠
(An indie filmmaker’s diet of fast food and MREs and skipped meals is not recommended)
But now we were on to Day 8 of Principal Photography, and one step closer to “That’s A Wrap!”

It was around this time last year that we filmed the last scenes of with .sunny and ! Crazy how time flies. These scenes turned out beautifully, and are so emotional to watch. They knocked it out of the park!

Now the film is in its last stages of VXF pre-viz, and the Editor’s Cut will be sent to our sales company in about a week for them to review! Wish us luck on their assessment! 😬🤞

The Editor’s Cut of is done!! 🎉
Now we’re moving in to adding pre-viz; temporary VFX and title cards like this to demonstrate what the film might look like once it’s complete!
Since Life Cycle 63 is pretty VFX heavy in some scenes, this will help us understand the pacing and clarity of the film and make any needed edits before settling on our Final Cut! This is one of our last big chances to revise the film before things like VFX and music get set in stone, so it’s a pretty important step! 😬🤞

🎥 ✨ ANNOUNCEMENT ✨ 🎥

We at Ambition Pictures and Second Draft Productions are THRILLED to announce that we have on board to score the music for !!

We met Andrew a number of years ago and had him in mind for the music of this film since its conception. Andrew writes orchestral scores that are recorded with a live orchestra, and we think that style and sound will work perfectly with this alternate-history sci-fi world.

Here’s a bit more about Andrew:

Born in 1986, Andrew Osano is a composer and orchestrator who displayed a love for music from a very young age and began playing the cello at the age of 9. It wasn’t long after that when he began to compose original pieces. It wasn’t until middle school when he discovered that writing music for film was an option and this was when he decided that he wanted to become a film composer.
Since then, Andrew has worked on various projects ranging from feature films to live spectacles. He has had his music recorded by several orchestras across Europe and collaborated on projects from Los Angeles to China. He has found a particular niche in music for fantasy and animated films from large sweeping orchestral music to music with a more intimate and introspective touch.

We learned recently that Phillip and Tim’s original mentor in the film industry, Rick Lord, has passed.
Rick collaborated with us on several short films including Manifest: The Chryzinium Era and Mount Adams. Phillip met Rick early in his film journey and they started working together on short films. They started Matchlight Films and it led to the film, “Manifest: The Chryzinium Era”; Phillip and Tim’s first real film project. Rick’s background in the film industry was very diverse and he shared his knowledge with Phillip and Tim, especially in grip and lighting departments. Their partnership with Rick strongly influenced their films to this day. In Phillip’s words; “I am grateful to have called Rick a friend, may you rest in peace. He lives on in our hearts and the many film projects he has contributed to.”
Rest in Peace, Rick Lord.

The rough cut is done! 🙌 🥳
Now we all sit down and read the script through again before we watch this first cut of Life Cycle 63 through from beginning to end. It’s 3.5 hours long currently, so it’s going to take some time to go through with pen and paper taking notes on edit, performance, and scene duration, but now we’re back in the fun, creative part! It’s time to polish this rough stone into a gem. 😉
And for those curious, this is Jordan’s script book, which she used on-set during filming. Every scene number now has the date that we filmed it written next to it. The pages are also filled with notes from the filming days and small paper props, like this pamphlet we used in our spaceship church scene! Yes, a spaceship church. What do you expect from a retro, alternate history sci-fi? 😉 The script book also holds the signatures of almost everyone who acted in or worked on the film, like a movie year book!
It’s one of Jordan’s most prized and loved possessions at this point. ☺️

One of the most miserable days in set for these two. They got “rained” on by a hose all day long for a scene. And it was December, so it was cold outside!
But the scene looks fantastic, so, maybe it was worth it? 😅🫡

Crazy to think that it was two years ago we were in the Badlands filming for Life Cycle 63! It’s been quite the journey to get all of the footage for this indie sci-fi film, with a very small team doing most of the work! It’s pretty quiet now in post-production with just a few of us at the studio. It’s easy to miss the days we had our larger crew out here every week building sets and filming with us!
Our rough cut is going to be a behemoth when it’s done, and it’s getting close. Pretty soon we’ll be sitting down with paper and pen to watch it through and make a lot of editing notes. The majority of which will be about what we can cut or shorten to get the film down to about 90 minutes!
