nleash the Dragon! As the new year begins, U.N.I.T.Y - brought to you by UDancecn Radio- is doing it big. Below, is a bit of information about the host’s of the new program. Get to know us! Coming to the Pearl of the East, it was easy to get lost in the big city but we were united by our love for Music, Peace and Having Fun. Jojo and Toma who both grew up in Paris were drawn in by sports, and knew from a young age that music was life. Our French- Caribbean born Jojo, in his youth was surrounded by the rich sounds of Dancehall, Reggae and Soca. As the years progressed he got into House Music, R&B, Hip Hop from the US and then later French Hip Hop music. After being immersing himself in the music, he took the opportunity his older brother offered him and began programming/selecting music at his brothers’ house parties. Proving his ability to bring the house down, he always knew that music would be a significant part in this life. Even though Joel had to distance himself a bit from being a DJ because of his basketball career and school, he would still spend his free time at the record stores digging up the latest joints. Toma had always been in love with music as well as sports. At the age of 14 began his basketball career. Basketball took him everywhere, from Europe to the US. He began playing college Basketball at the George Mason University in Virginia. After 3 year of playing in the US, be decided to go back to France and become a Pro-Basketball player. Unfortunately a shoulder injury slowed his career down, but after a year and completing a successful surgery he came back! He found a team to give him a second chance and played for 7 years after that, with different consecutive teams also. After winning a French Championship Title he decided to turn his life around. In Toma’s own words, “Music for him is the best friend you can have in life.” Among his choices are Hip Hop, Soul, R&B, Reggae and so much more. JoJo is a former basketball player with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from La Salle University, Philadelphia, PA. He moved to Shanghai and now is the General Manager of China Basketball Sports Club. Toma came to Shanghai to help his former teammate Jojo, and is now working alongside him. China Basketball Sports Club is an organization running a Chinese youth Basketball program. Jojo gives back to the community, by engaging in charity events and providing free basketball training to Chinese migrant children residing in Shanghai. As Toma says, “Shanghai is a city of opportunity. Now I have one to share with you, the music I love…”
Lacychu born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, had also from a young age been introduced to music and sports. As she always says, “Music is in the soul of EVERY Jamaican, no matter what.” Since her youth she has been playing football and has always had an appreciation for the arts and languages. After graduating, not really knowing what to do with herself, her parents had made the move to Shanghai and began doing business. As the youngest of 6 siblings, she decided to go to Shanghai and pursue her degree in Economics and Trade while studying Chinese. From Reggae, Soca and Dancehall to Ska, Jazz and Soul, to R&B and Hip Hop, she has a very eclectic taste in music and wants give everyone the same opportunity. “Remembering the days when I was younger, music was always around me…It has become a part of me.”
As a new part of our team, 保罗 or Paul, has join the crew. As a guest host, he brings the fire almost every show. Paul Cooper, also known as 保罗或酷毙保罗, 我从美国来,但是我的母亲是牙买加人。He's hailing from Augusta, Georgia - where music has a huge impact on it's people. He likes studying Chinese and he can also be considered as a 小提琴的老师. That's right, he can play the violin! He's all about music, and agrees with what Jojo, Toma and Lacychu have said, "I can't listen to music that hurts my ears! It's impossible."
