Its Trans Awareness Week!
This week is even more special this year, because my beautiful Fiancé , gets to be their true authentic self.

Words can’t describe how proud I am of you. I couldn’t imagine the feelings and thoughts that go through your mind; knowing that you feel like you were born in the wrong body. What I do know is, no matter what, I am madly in love with you. I know that this journey is going to have a lot of ups, and a lot of downs. I know that this journey will make you happy, but sometimes test your emotions. I know that no matter what, I will be by your side, loving you unconditionally, to get through everything with you. You are a special soul Kasia. Don’t ever forget it. Be proud of you. Be proud of how far you have come. Be proud of everything you are and will be.

And just like that, 3 years have gone by with you not on this earth..

People dont understand why losing you hurt so much. How ”I could be so sad about losing someone who didn’t raise you.” or “ How “you could be there for him when he wasnt there for you”. Honestly, thats what made all of this harder. Imagine going your whole life longing for a relationship with your biological father and then finally rekindling the relationship, just to have him die less than a year later. None of this may make any sense to any of you, and quite frankly, there are times it doesn’t make sense to me. Regardless, the pain is still here. The hurt, brokeness, sadness, confusion, and love, are all still here.

I hope that one day, this part of my heart heals.

31 pounds down in 2 months and I couldn’t be prouder of myself. I want to talk about body image and mental health when it comes to former college athletes. You spend your whole life in shape, doing the sport you love. You have your coaches holding you accountable, your teammates holding you accountable, and yourself. 2% of college athletes go pro after they graduate. There are more than 460,000 collegiate athletes that compete every year. What happens to them, when it all ends? The discipline? The accountability? The consistency? The goals?

In fact, most of us want to keep doing what we did for more than half of our lives, but when sports at that competitve level are done, it gets hard to keep it going. We gain weight, lose our consistency, stop working out as much as before, eat completely differently than before, and sometimes even lose our passion for the sport. We get overlooked, and then the next wave of talent shines and has their moment.

We have to remember that former college athletes struggle every single day with their mental health and body image. Its a drastic change in lifestyle and takes years or even the rest of their lives, to get back on track.

I say all of this to shine a light on an issue that doesn’t get talked about often. I shine light on this, because I am that former college athlete, who has been battling everything listed above. I say this stuff because I know that there are others feeling and battling the same exact thing that I have been for years. Most importantly, I say this because I I want people to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am rooting for you no matter where you are in your journey right now. it will get better. It will get easier. I know it will be hard, but don’t ever quit.
