Race Day Duties
1) 40 posts per day, 25-30 if we are covering 2.
2) Let our audience know you'll be there by doing 4-10 posts prior to arrival. It's Race Day, restaurant reviews, & traveling type posts etc...
3) Do 1 post on your page encouraging your friends to like your posts as a reporter for PBC. No original stuff on your personal page. Focus on our page only.
4) Track arrival post
5) Check cell service to determine how many pitside photos you can group together. Estimate how many total cars as well to help determine your # of cars per photo to reach your 40 goal. Usually 3-6 cars per photo. If your service is bad, find a hot spot and find an available reporter who you can transfer photos to for them to do your posts.
6) Spread pre-race pitside reports 10-15 minutes apart. Throughout the entire night, try not to let more than 15-20 minutes go by without doing 1 report. Otherwise our audience and sponsors are getting shafted and we could lose them. Typically we have to make at least 3 rounds so we don't miss any late arrivals. Every Late Model must be pospictures. Label each car photo on top line: Car # and full name.
7) Make notations who your Best Appearing Car nominees are. They MUST be close to mint condition on both sides. We need minimum of 7, maximum 15 nominees. If they're all scuffed, allow some in with minor scratches.
8A. As hot laps near, you should have every Late Model posted already. Now do the Best Appearing Car Nominees post. Type in # of entries along with car # and full name. Then copy this and add to each individual car pic.
8B. Best Appearing Car post done during Hot Laps. Once post is up, copy that link and send to judges telling them its time to vote for (Sauk Rapids) and to have ballots in by ????? PM CST. We always allow them 45-60 minutes to vote. Award presentation needs to be done before B Main. Be quick about getting this done early.
9) Heat Race Line-Ups (not mandatory but encouraged if you have time).
10) Heat Race play-by-play. Try and do top 3 on 1st lap. Top 4 or 5 if you have a caution. May use last name only here.
11) Heat Race Results. Your toughest job each and every night. Post place, car #, and full name. First place thru last place. Get it done b4 next Heat starts. Have outline already up with 2 to go. Maybe have top 2 already typed in.
12) Heat winner pics pitside and tabulate BAC ballots. If every judge hasn't voted, you must give them a last minute reminder stating you need them now! Get good close-up photos of Heat Winners. Put all of them in a single post labeling who won each heat. Then do your BAC award presentation. Two photos. One wide shot showing car & 1 close up holding the certificate under their chin. We need the whites of their eyes. Then do Psycho's Sexy 7 post with 9 photos. Both pictures of winner plus pics of all 7 cars from Nomination photos.
13) Facebook LIVE Pitwalk. Not mandatory. Must have excellent cell service or don't attempt. Get permission from me. With 2 events, we both cannot go LIVE at the same time.
14) B Main Line-Up or A Main Line-Up if no B Main. Not required but encouraged.
15) B Main play-by-play. Always do top 3 on lap 1. Do top 3 or top 5 during cautions.
16) B Main Results: place, car number, & full name. First thru last place.
17) A Main Line-Up
18) A Main play-by-play. This is where you can get in 4-10 reports. Lap 1, lap 10, lap 20, lap 30, etc and cautions. Do top 5 or top 10 during cautions.
19) Put up quick A Main Top 3 or top 5 Results post. This is a quickie. Maybe photo by scales or pulling into victory lane.
20) Cover Victory Lane. You belong here. We are PBC. Likely the only national reporters here. Get a good spot straight across from the winner in victory lane. I only yield to series photographer & track photographer. Take many photos (first pulling in, climbing on roof, being interviewed, posing with trophies, etc. After it's over, you may even rush up to winner and get close up.
21) We need close ups of Top 3 A Main. We need this every single night. If they come to victory lane, find a good moment to break away from winner. Tell 2nd place you need a 2nd place photo. Same for 3rd place.
22) Find an area to write your post race press release. This is always one of our most viewed posts over the next 12 hours. Talk about anything. Research area history or track history. Have that pre-written. Will help regarding time constraints and quality/length of your story. Edit photos. Delete bad ones. Crop your good photos. Then post. Try and have this published within 1.5 hours of finish.
23) Throughout the night, try and tag as many sponsors and racetracks as time allows. Especially our major sponsors such as Visit Greater St Cloud and Herberg Harvesting. The more often you can tag them makes both them and me happy. It helps our business and helps you earn your pay. Every sponsor is told that they will get approximately 40 one paragraph advertisements per day. Ten or 15 is totally unacceptable.
If we have 2 races going on every day that you work. Therefore goal is 25-30. If I rain out or you rain out, the other reporter must do 40. Story about yourself taking this gig, pit stops and cool photo ops along the way, and restaurant stops/reviews are easy ways to get 5 or 10 reports in. But don't lag on race posts. Every 15-20 minutes is our time-line to being successful.
