THE BROOD - Call Of The Dog
THE BROOD - Call Of The Dog
Around 1984, guitarist Jon Nelson and drummer Amery Smith parted ways with Suicidal Tendencies to form the band that would eventually become THE BROOD. At that time, the lineup also included No Mercy guitarist Mike Clark, and the project was operating under the name of Screaming Fetus. Having heard an early demo, photographer and Suicidal Tendencies manager/producer Glen E. Friedman expressed interest, but requested a name change. The group settled on THE BROOD before bringing in former Neighborhood Watch bassist John Flitcraft and replacing Clark with future Uncle Slam lead Todd Moyer.
Friedman hooked up a deal with Profile Records, and the quartet entered Perspective Sound in Sun Valley, CA to record their lone self-titled full-length—for which the legendary Pushead designed the band's logo. THE BROOD's debut added a unique edge to the Venice hardcore/punk/metal sound through compositions that were slightly longer and more subtly involved in terms of melody and musicianship, thus cementing its now-classic status amidst this much-lauded niche of the genre.
Disagreements between the band and management/label surfaced during the recording, and only intensified throughout a well-received tour with Saint Vitus before an album was even available to promote. Smith and Moyer eventually left after the album's release in 1986, leaving Nelson and Flitcraft to continue with a new drummer. Plans continued taking shape for a second album with Profile, but with Nelson still sour from the setbacks surrounding the first release, he decided to walk away—feeling that the true vision for the band's sound and direction would not be properly represented nor supported.
More than 35 years later, Divebomb Records is ecstatic to finally reissue THE BROOD's cult classic from the Venice heyday. Restored and remastered by Jamie King Audio for superior sound, the 12-song CD will be packaged alongside a 24-page booklet including photos, flyers, lyrics, and a

📹 SUBWAY MIRROR - CD Spotlight
⚡ The legendary Dan Swanö may be thought of as a "metal god"—writing and performing as well as producing, mixing, and mastering countless such projects over the decades—but keep in mind that even by 1990, Swanö had already been involved with a variety of rock, hardcore/punk, and metal bands. In his own words, the reality is that metal is "just one little tiny bit in the corner." Further evidence of this fact results from one of Dan's most obscure and unknown groups: SUBWAY MIRROR. Existing from approximately 1990 - 1995, this alternative rock outfit heavily inspired by acts such as Buffalo Tom, Mega City Four, and Ned's Atomic Dustbin adds yet another impressive layer to Swanö's amazingly wide-ranging discography.
Largely active under the name of O (:the circle), the quartet featured Dan Swanö on guitar and vocals, guitarist Peter Edwinzon, Velo Rytsy on bass, and drummer Fredrik Ohlson. O (:the circle) recorded four demos between 1990 - 1993, though none were widely circulated, and some were never truly released at all. The band's only proper appearance was one track, "Waterfall," included on a four-way split 7" called Volume One in 1992. After a period of uncertainty and inactivity, O (:the circle) regrouped under their original—and less confusing—moniker of SUBWAY MIRROR in 1994 to properly document their material once and for all. The result was an outstandingly catchy eight-song album that was nearly released by White Jazz Records (The Hellacopters, Gluecifer, etc.). Unfortunately, that opportunity fell apart, and the band quietly faded away...
Having felt so strongly about the spirit of SUBWAY MIRROR and the quality of the band's songwriting, Swanö painstakingly retouched the audio in 2019 and issued the material digitally in order for the music to be preserved and finally have a chance to be heard. Divebomb Records—also possessing diverse musical tastes despite being known primarily for metal—heard that

EXCRUCIATOR - Fighting For Evil (OFFICIAL VIDEO) *REWIND*
EXCRUCIATOR - Fighting For Evil CD (DIVE134) | 2017
Like their Portland brethren, Bewitcher, before them, Divebomb Records is honored to announce the signing of hard-hitting thrashers EXCRUCIATOR for the CD release of their latest and greatest album! Formed in 2008 as a reaction to the weak-minded trends and overdone “-core” music that had been infecting Portland at the time, EXCRUCIATOR’s mission remains to revive the spirit and values of true heavy metal, long-since lost in the Pacific Northwest.
In the years that followed, the group would proceed to unleash a four-song demo, the By The Gates Of Flesh EP, and debut full-length Devouring. Released by Heavy Artillery/Earache Records in 2011, Devouring found EXCRUCIATOR labelmates with other modern day metal saviors such as Spellcaster, Vektor, and Volture, among many others. Furthermore, the band has shared the stage with everyone from thrash legends Exodus and Forbidden, to long-running death metal giants Malevolent Creation, to name but a few.
Lineup changes eventually sidelined EXCRUCIATOR during an extended hiatus, but the quartet regrouped in 2015 for a split EP with Toxic Witch, prior to entering the studio to track their long-awaited sophomore outing. Fighting For Evil was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Toxic Holocaust’s Joel Grind at Falcon Recording Studios in Portland, OR. Featuring vibrantly violent cover artwork compliments of Matt Slime, Fighting For Evil dishes out eight new tracks of snarling, top-shelf thrash that’s loaded with energy and attitude.
