Ghost Proposal http://www.ghostproposal.com/

post-genre journal and small press. At Ghost Proposal, we’re into writing that is aware of its own topography.

Ghost Proposal is:

Proposal: an offering; a possibility; a conjecture; a guess; a hypothesis; a thing-to-be-explored. Ghost: a shadow on the sleeve of your sweater; a rhythm returning from lifetimes before; the meandering suggestion of a river on an ancient, yellowed map. We like work that engages with thought process. We think of writing as “a letter from a stranger that you can’t bear to throw

away. It haunts you; it strengthens you.” (Mary Oliver). We want to publish your strange objects. The whispers sitting in between your shoulder blades. Translation: We publish poetry, essays, hybrid works of both, works that nestle in between poetry and essays, works that stretch the boundaries of poetry and essays. We publish images and multimedia. We do not publish fiction. We do publish poetry and essays that play with elements of fiction. Manifesto: We do not label by genre in our issues. We want to engage with the work itself, separate from the discussion of labels. We want to talk about what the work is doing, not what it is.

From Issue 14: an excerpt of “(o)bituary: Unnamed” by olivier.

〰️〰️〰️

olivier () is a research-based artist+writer and archives worker. They speak Cantonese at home with their demonic cat. Their practice is rooted in the ephemerality and the anarchival in q***r and trans theory, and ufology. They toy with poetics and semiotics, caress languaging and linguistics, draw with speculative projects, artists’ books, videos, performative lectures, happenings, surveys… and lead a secret mail art practice. olivier holds an MA in Visual and Critical Studies. Born and raised in British-Hong Kong, they are now temporarily floating in the rivers of Chicago after some adventures in the Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean. For the past decade, their time-machine has been stuck in this dimension. So it goes.

Today, we’re thrilled to release Points of Return by —the winner of our 2021 chapbook contest. Points of Return forecasts a cloudless future. The landscape of the text is at once stark and lush, opaque and translucent. The language, printed on paper and see-thru vellum, incises its container, returning, and sometimes just turning. Limited edition of 100; order your copy on the Ghost Proposal website.
