Jazz Record Revival was established in 1978 by Thomas Burns when he purchased Record Revival which was founded in 1973 and was the first new and used record store in Denver Colorado. The original store was located at 2019 South Broadway in Denver until 1989. The Broadway store was world renowned for its selection of jazz recordings from all over the world and was visited by musicians and collector
s, some who traveled half way around the world just to visit the store. It has moved several times over the last 20 years, first to Tiny Town, then Evergreen and it is presently located high above the beautiful mountain town of Bailey Colorado at 9000 feet, probably the highest record store in the world. The inventory consists of over 150,000 LPs, plus large quantities of 78 rpm, 45 rpm, compact discs, and 10-inch LPs. Burns established a reputation for his extensive jazz knowledge while in his early 20's and has been involved in the local and national jazz scene for over 33 years. He hosted a jazz program on KADX for 6 years in the 1980's, promoted concerts and festivals in Colorado since 1977, provided live sound reinforcement for jazz parties and festivals, is a freelance recording engineer and runs the Capri record label. He also is a jazz photographer and his photos have been published in a variety of publications over the years including Jazz Times, Downbeat, Cadence, International Society of Jazz Bassists Magazine and many others. He has also shot cover photos for many record and CD releases and publicity photos of famous jazz musicians worldwide.
