District Development Commissioner Flags Off Inter-State Farmer Tour for Agricultural Innovation

Samba, November 4, 2024 – District Development Commissioner Samba, Mr. Rajesh Sharma, JKAS, flagged off a group of 54 farmers from the District Office Complex, Nandni Hills, Samba, for an inter-state agricultural study tour organized under the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) program. During his interaction with the farmers, Mr. Sharma encouraged them to make the most of this opportunity by learning and adopting the latest agricultural technologies from the institutes and research centers they will visit. He emphasized that these farmers could serve as role models for the broader farming community upon their return.

The tour, part of the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Extension (ATMA) program, aims to build the capacity of local farmers by exposing them to advanced techniques and knowledge at premier agricultural institutions. The Department of Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare, Samba, is organizing this initiative to equip farmers with cutting-edge practices and innovations in agriculture.

The itinerary includes interaction sessions with scientists at the Farm University in Palampur and the National Apiculture Development Institute in Nagrota Bagwa, Himachal Pradesh. The tour focuses on capacity building in areas such as protected cultivation, organic and natural farming, advanced mushroom cultivation techniques, and the latest advancements in apiculture.

Chief Agriculture Officer Samba, Mr. Madan Gopal Singh, and other officials from the Department of Agriculture were also present at the flag-off ceremony.

Divine Events J&K Conducts Music Competition at Writers Club, Abhinav Theatre, Jammu

JAMMU : Divine Events J&K successfully organized a vibrant music competition at the Writers Club, Abhinav Theatre, Jammu. The event, which showcased the immense talent of students from four different states, was organized by renowned artist Amritpal Singh.

The chief guest, Dr. Devinder Kumar Manyal, MLA Ramgarh & Former Health and Education Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Former MLA Samba and General Secretary BJP J&K praised the participants and the initiative, highlighting the importance of such events for the overall development of students.

Special guests included Wing Commander Johnson, Rajesh Sharma (Principal, Sunshine Public School), and Deepak Kumar (Junior Kishore Kumar of Jammu). Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, AIIMS Jammu Successfully Performs First Palliative Esophageal Self-Expanding Metallic Stent Placement for Advanced Complicated Esophageal Cancer
All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu announces a significant achievement in its ongoing mission to provide advanced medical solutions for complex health conditions. The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology at AIIMS, Jammu, successfully performed the first palliative esophageal self-expanding metallic stent (SEMS) procedure for an advanced esophageal malignancy, showcasing a milestone in the management of late-stage esophageal cancer. This pioneering procedure marks a significant step in the hospital’s commitment to advancing specialized, compassionate care for patients with advanced esophageal diseases.
The patient who underwent the procedure was experiencing significant choking and difficulty in swallowing. He underwent an endoscopy at AIIMS, which revealed mid Esophageal malignancy with the possibility of fistula with airway. CT scan confirmed the findings. Partially covered esophageal SEMS was placed on 21st Oct. Patient tolerated the orals and was discharged uneventfully. The aim was to relieve symptoms by keeping the esophagous open and preventing food and liquids from entering airway from esophagous through the fistula, thereby improving his overall well-being and quality of life.
The procedure was performed by Dr Sahil Sandal and his team, led by Miss Harsh*ta (Senior Nursing Officer), Mr Madhusudhan (Endoscopic Technician), and Nursing officers.
Dr Sahil Sandal, Assistant Professor and Officer in Charge of the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, said, “This first successful SEMS placement for esophageal malignancy is a significant milestone for our department and AIIMS Jammu. This minimally invasive procedure is particularly valuable for patients who are not candidates for surgery or are in the advanced stages of esophageal cancer, as it provides symptom relief without the need for major surgery.” He further added, “The successful completion of this intervention highlights the department’s dedication to providing innovative treatments and improving patient outcomes and will continue to expand its portfolio of minimally invasive procedures, aiming to provide both curative and palliative options for individuals with gastrointestinal (GI) and hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) malignancies. With the initiation of these procedures, the patients requiring luminal stenting now need not go outside the state for these procedures.
He added, "The success of this initiative would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu, Prof. (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta. His leadership and dedication have been instrumental in driving the hospital’s mission to achieve excellence in healthcare.

Slathia reviews health sector, lays foundation of school building



SAMBA OCTOBER 28- Pradesh BJP Vice President and MLA Mr Surjeet Singh Slathia today reviewed the status of health care sector in the Samba district with an avowed objective of driving improvements in the services with focus on ensuring adequate availability of medicines and seamless diagnostic examinations.



The meeting was attended by senior functionaries of the Health Department and various strategies were discussed for strengthening infrastructure , improving healthcare accessibility and ensuring standard medical services across the district.



Slathia stressed the need for further improving public health outcomes and outlined initiatives focused on enhancing primary healthcare, upgrading hospitals, and increasing medical supplies and staff in underserved areas. He sought optimal coverage under Ayshman Bharat and exuded confidence that the medicos and paramedics will serve the ailing people with a sense of commitment and dedication.



“Ensuring quality healthcare for all citizens must be a top priority and every effort is needed to be made to improve the well being of our people”, Mr Slathia said, adding that focused attention should be paid towards accessibility of the people towards quality health services.



Mr Slathia assured his full support to the health officials and hoped that they too will work for the larger interest of the people and maintain the services in a missionary spirit. He also called for taking all possible steps to maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the health institutions.



Later, Mr Slathia also laid the foundation stone of a 10-room double storey building at Higher Secondary School Goran Block Sumb, being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.85 crore under Capex budget. He stressed the need for maintaining quality standards of the building and ensuring its completion in stipulated time frame. He said congenial atmosphere and infrastructural facilities are imperative for imparting education.

SAMBA OCTOBER 27- Pradesh BJP Vice President and MLA Mr Surjeet Singh Slathia today paid glowing tributes to Brigadier Rajinder Singh, the dedicated and highly decorated Dogra warrior of the Maharaja Hari Singhji’s army, saying that his strong resistance to Pakistani raiders will always inspire those loving their beloved motherland.

“Mahavir Chakra recipient warrior made the nation in general and the Duggarland in particular proud by his supreme sacrifice and left an indelible mark of heroism that remains the golden chapter of our military history”, Mr Slathia said while speaking at a homage giving function on the Shaheedi Diwas of Brigadier Rajinder Singh at Village Rajinder Pura Vijaypur Samba.

Mr S S Slathia said the sacrifice of Brigadier Rajinder Singh and his valiant men to save Kashmir from Pakistan marauders and subsequent supreme sacrifice this day in 1947 defending the integrity and sovereignty of the nation in Kashmir during most testing times has been a guiding force for the compatriots to remain at the forefront and foil the machinations of the enemy. The indebted nation has all along been bowing its head with respect and deep esteem for the Saviour of Kashmir, he said, adding that his martyrdom will continue to inspire generations for serving the nation in whatever capacity they can.

Mr Slathia said this is also an occasion to remember the martyrdom of brave-hearts, who continue to sacrifice their lives for the nation. The biggest homage to great heroes is to create a strong and stable nation wherein people live in peace and harmony. He lauded the patriotic spirit of the people in remembering the great son of soil, saying this reflects their love and esteem for the warrior.

“We salute the martyrdom of Brigadier Rajinder Singh and bow before the courage of Maharaja Hari Singhji valiant forces under his command during the horrendous days of 1947”, Mr Slathia said and led the people of the area in paying floral tributes to the Dogra warrior.

Earlier, Mr Slathia also inaugurated the drain on link road from Mandi Udh Gurha Slathia to Badwal, constructed by PWD at a cost of Rs 14 lakhs, repair and renovation of three class rooms of High School Rajinderpura, carried out at a cost of Rs9 lakhs, repair and renovation of PHC Gurha Slathia completed under Health District Plan at a cost of Rs 8 lakhs upgradation of Gurha Slathia Library completed at a cost of Rs 9.57 lakhs and construction of link road from Mandi Udh to the house of Sh Mohan Singh estimated Cost Rs 25 lakhs.
Mr Surjeet Singh Slathia today expressed gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support during the assembly elections, making the BJP largest representative party of the Jammu region with its vote share across Jammu and Kashmir highest.

AIIMS Vijaypur Organizes CME on Latest Innovations in the Management of Breast Diseases

Jammu, October 26, 2024 – The Department of General Surgery at AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu, under the leadership of Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, ED & CEO of AIIMS Jammu organized a highly informative Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Workshop on “Latest Innovations in the Management of Breast Diseases.” The event, held on October 26, 2024, attracted an enthusiastic gathering of faculty, senior residents, nursing officers, and students from both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

The CME was graced by the Chief Guest, Prof (Dr) G.K. Rath, former Head of the National Cancer Institute, ex-Chief of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Institute-Rotary Cancer Hospital, and former Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at AIIMS Delhi. His expertise and insights added immense value to the proceedings. Dr Piyush Ranjan, Additional Professor in the Department of Surgical Disciplines, delivered a compelling keynote address on “Breast Imaging,” which was followed by an inspiring talk by Prof. Shabab Angurana, Professor and Head of the Department of Radiotherapy, on “Precision Medicine in Breast Cancer: A Paradigm Shift Towards Personalized Care.”

In alignment with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of General Surgery shared a report highlighting its recent achievements, notably the screening of nearly 1,000 patients for breast cancer in October. This comprehensive report was presented by Dr. Maria Kapoor, Additional Professor & Head of the Department of General Surgery. During the event, the department also announced its plans to establish Integrated Breast Wellness Clinics in the near future, aiming to elevate the quality of care for breast health.

The CME was followed by 2-hour workshop on advance imaging technologies, both diagnostic and therapeutic used for breast diseases. Over 50 participants including all Surgical Specialties faculty, students took part in the workshop and done the hands-on specimen.

The CME concluded on a positive note with a heartfelt vote of thanks, celebrating the commitment to advancements in breast disease management and reinforcing the institute's dedication to patient care and education.

AIIMS Jammu Successfully Commences Spine Surgeries, Expands Medical Services
Jammu, October 23, 2024: AIIMS Jammu has successfully commenced spine surgeries, marking a new era in advanced healthcare for the region. The first surgery was performed on a patient diagnosed with L5-S1 Pr*****ed Intervertebral Disc (PIVD) with right-side radiculopathy, a condition causing severe back pain and nerve compression in the lower limbs. This surgery was carried out by an expert team of Doctors and highlights the Institution’s growing capabilities in specialized Medical care.
The surgical team included Dr. Tarsem Lal Motten, Dr. Rashid Anjum and Dr. Imran and the Anaesthesia team, led by Dr. Sunana Gupta and supported by Dr Sandeepika Dogra and Dr. Pallavi. The Anaesthesia team played a critical role in ensuring the patient’s comfort and safety throughout the surgery.
