Rare coins found in remnants of ancient Jewish building

Before it was destroyed by the Romans, the building was likely used by Talmudic sages, say archeologists.

A hoard of ancient silver and bronze coins found by archaeologists in the Israeli city of Lod provides the first evidence of a Jewish uprising against Roman rule almost 1,700 years ago.

The 94 coins were discovered under the floor of a public Jewish building — likely a synagogue — that was violently destroyed during the Gallus Revolt of 351-354 CE.

Experts are convinced the coins were deliberately hidden in the hope that the owners would be able to retrieve them in the future. They never returned.

The Romans had ruled what was then Palaestina since the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE and had quashed the famous Bar Kochba revolt 200 years earlier.

The discovery of the coins and of the remnants of the building in which they were found is the first physical evidence of what turned out to be the last Jewish revolt against Roman persecution in Israel.

It also indicates that the uprising, barely mentioned in surviving texts, was dealt with by the forces of Caesar Flavius Constantius Gallus with far greater violence than was originally thought.

Excavations carried out jointly by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) and Lod Municipality unearthed stone and marble artifacts bearing inscriptions in Hebrew, as well as Greek and Latin.

That, together with the complete absence of pig bones beneath the building — which was built during the Late Roman or Early Byzantine period — is how they are certain of the building’s links with the Jewish community.

My wife experienced this just yesterday, it is terrifying to hear about this happening just a few miles away... but it also steels me to stand firm against the darkness.

Two days ago in a quiet suburb of Washington State, in the middle of a sunny afternoon, I parked next to a car with a family, "Am Yisrael Chai" was playing loudly on my car radio, the couple got out of the car and the young man was wearing a kafiyah wrapped around his shoulders. He somehow heard the “Am Yisrael Chai” and became enraged at me and as he shook his fist screaming something I could not hear, all I could think in my terrified state, was to raise the volume and sing at the top of my lungs. He spat on my car and something frightened him, he got in his car and took off fast. I got out of my car and as I walked towards the building I was headed to, someone called me saying Mam’!!! She was a beautiful Yemeni Jewish woman who grabbed my hand and took it to her heart saying the Shema.
We recited the Shema together, she was with her husband and their friend and it was them coming towards my car that scared the man with the Kafiyah.
We didn’t know each other but we knew we were family ✡️🇮🇱

Susan Warsinger and her younger brother Joseph woke to a brick smashing through their bedroom window on the night of November 9, 1938. Susan, age nine, hid under her blanket in terror as more bricks and rocks were hurled into their room.

In spite of his fear, eight-year-old Joseph was curious. He carefully pulled himself up to the window and peered out. “Susi,” he said. “It is our neighbors.”

The two children rushed across the hall to their parents’ room. Outside, their neighbors uprooted a lamppost, smashing it through their front door. “Beautiful glass,” Susan remembered. “Blue, green, purple. The glass was strewn all over the floor.”

That night convinced Susan’s parents that Germany was no longer safe for their family. They were determined to get their children out of the country—even if it meant separation.

This is absolutely despicable. I don't care if the protestors consider this "peaceful", they are totally ignoring the spilled blood of the truly peaceful communities surrounding Gaza that were brutally decimated that started this war, that Israel did not start this war, that Hamas has promised that they will repeat what they did as long as they are able, and they then went to hide back I their own population to draw Israel's necessary response. No reasonable army would draw the battle to their own population unless they did not care about that population, which Hamas obviously does not. The list of countries in which Palestinians have experienced and continue to experience suffering is extensive, and it primarily includes Arab nations. But this list is hardly talked about, because it does not fit into the fashionable modern pro-Palestinian narrative.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of discrimination, persecution and mistreatment inflicted on Palestinians by Arab countries since 1948.
Palestinians are not allowed to become citizens of any Arab country, except in some special cases in Jordan. This ban was introduced by the Arab League in 1959 and is intended to “preserve the Palestinian identity”.
Palestinians who lost their Jordanian nationality cannot regain it.
They are also not allowed to travel freely within the Arab world, as the Palestinian Authority issues them with “travel documents” that are only recognized by a limited number of countries.
Those residing in Muslim countries lack the right to vote or stand for office in national elections.
