The Luxor Egyptian & European Film Festival is organized by Noon Foundation for Culture and Arts (NOONCA) with the contribution of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture as well as public and private organizations in Egypt and in Europe. The first edition of the festival will be held from the 17th to the 22rd of September 2012. The 1st edition of the Luxor Egyptian and European Film festival will have r
enowned Egyptian writer Bahaa Taher as its honorary president. The festival will present more than 70 films from Egypt and all across Europe and will receive more than 250 guests among whom are numerous directors, actors, professionals as well as representatives of the most important Egyptian and European Medias. An official competition will be dedicated to Egyptian and European feature and short films produced in the past two years. Awards will be granted by a jury composed of Egyptian and European professionals. British cinema is the guest of honor in this first edition which will present, in the presence of some directors and scriptwriters, approximately 10 British films produced during the last decade. A tribute will be paid to Ahmed Helmy, one of the most popular film stars of the new Egyptian cinema. He will attend the festival during the screening of some of his most memorable films to the Luxor public. The festival opening will take place in the esplanade of the Karnak Temple. The festival will also devote a special program to films shot on location in Luxor, showing its marvelous temples and antiquities. There will be a round table about British Cinema which will take place on 19th September. Four seminars will be organized during the festival; they will be attended by Egyptian and European professionals. One of them will deal with literary adaptations in cinema while the other will tackle shooting conditions of historical films in Egypt There will also be a symposium on short films as well as a press-conference that will address the issue of freedom of speech in Egypt
The Luxor Egyptian and European film festival will be an annual encounter which will foster the knowledge and diffusion in Egypt of high-quality cinematographic and audiovisual works directed by Egyptian and European filmmakers. It will also nurture cinematic dialogue between Egypt and Europe.
