Stories are the strongest way to connect. To understand. To care.
Under normal circumstances weโd create some sort of polished appeal, but obviously these are not normal circumstances.
If what we do has been helpful or you think it is important, please support us and share our show with others.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

* GIVING TUESDAY *
In the 31 โWartime Diariesโ weโve released thus far, weโve highlighted a wide range of perspectives and experiences: From a father who saved his son from the massacre at the Nova Festival to the sister of a soldier who was kidnapped from her army base; from a Gush Katif settler who longs to return to her sea-side home in Gaza to a peace activist whose Palestinian friend was killed by an Israeli airstrike in the Strip; from Holocaust survivors to Bedouin leaders; from former Mossad agents to dairy farmers; from educators to poets; from museum curators to rabbis to Nepali agriculture students and many, many more.
Each of these people have, in their own unique way, illuminated these dark days, and helped us process the insanity around us.
Of the countless messages and emails weโve received, two that have stayed with us have been from a listener in Australia who said that โWartime Diariesโ has been a โreal lifeboat in an ocean of grief,โ and from a listener in the States who wrote that our episodes have โhelped crack my heart open again.โ
If you too feel that, in some small way, we have helped you get through these terrible weeks โ if our episodes have brought you solace, or hope, or understanding โ please consider making a contribution: www.israelstory.org/support-us/

Producing โSigned, Sealed, Delivered?โ has entailed months of planning, research, PI work, and traveling throughout the entire country.
One step that really helped us along the way was creating a visual map of all the signatories and their descendants. Our detective-esque wall proved to be a great tool for planning our series, and doubles as cool decor for our office!

We we're thrilled to have "Signed, Sealed, Delivered?" featured on Israeli radio this morning!
Yehudit Kol Inbar, Moshe Kolodny's daughter โ who you'll hear from in an upcoming episode โ talked about who her father was both in the Knesset, and, more intimately, at home. She told an amazing tale about bringing back eggs from Tel Aviv when he signed the Declaration of Independence because there were none to be found in Jerusalem at the time. Her mother always said those two eggs were the best thing that came out of signing our founding document.

Thirty-seven people signed Megillat HaโAtzmaut. There were Revisionists and Labor Party ideologues; capitalists and communists and socialists; kibbutznikim, moshavnikim and city folk; Haredi rabbis and atheists.
Over the course of the past several months, our team has diligently tracked down the closest living relative of each one of these signatories, and interviewed them. We talked about their ancestors and families, about the promise of the Declaration, the places in which we delivered on that promise, the places in which we exceeded our wildest dreams, and also about the places where we fell short.
Today we bring you a little taste of our new series, โSigned, Sealed, Delivered?โ. Listen now, and get ready for a riveting new look at the nationโs founding document - coming out next week!

*FREE BONUS: My Dad, David*
On February 25, 2023, David Harman โ Mishyโs dad โ passed away.
He believed in people, social justice and our ability to overcome almost anything. An eternal optimist, he was a patient peacemaker and a living history book.
He appeared on the show several times over the years; and today, as a way of honoring and remembering him, we want to share some of those stories.

What's it like to produce a podcast episode about people for whom spoken speech no longer comes naturally?
We posed this question to producer Adina Karpuj, who created "Honorary Birds" - Part I of our Season Seven opener, Episode 77 "Free As A Bird."
"Interviewing someone who communicates through a machine was an incredibly humbling experience. I found that I needed to restrain myself from assuming what Gidon wanted to say, or trying to fill in his sentences as he typed with his gaze. I needed to overcome the impulse not to pose any direct questions in an effort not to tire him out. At the beginning of this process, I'd ask something whose answer could take a full minute or more just to type out, and then feel terrible about putting him through the trouble. With time, though, I realized that it wasn't Gidon's energy I needed to look out for, but rather my ability to be patient and present.โ

SEASON SEVEN IS HERE! *New Episode: Free as a Bird*
Todayโs episode has three stories that are ostensibly about birds, but are really about the heights to which the human spirit can soar, and the depths to which it can plunge.

Creating the kind of audio you hear on Israel Story takes a lot of time and effort. Take this little clip, for instance. Itโs less than 2.5 minutes long, but took multiple producers days to produce. We went out to the street, recorded hundreds of people, chose our favorite sound bites, compiled them, played around with the order, added music, sound design, and started creating drafts. What you hear here is draft 7 of this particular piece. And all that work costs a lot of money. So if you enjoy Israel Story, please pitch in and help us continue to do what we do best - tell a diverse and nuanced story of Israel.

During this holiday season, we thought youโd enjoy this throwback from Bethlehem, where song and celebration have finally returned after a two-year hiatus. The pursuit of diverse voices is harder to produce than it looks. For example this clip from Bethlehem, which is less than a minute long, is the result of hours upon hours of travel, recording, selecting, editing, and mixing. Itโs a very expensive process actually. So if you enjoy Israel Story, please pitch in and help us continue casting our nets wide to capture the myriad of stories in our unique corner of the world.
