The Power of Dry Fire and Airsoft:
Full Circle Tactical Academy's Approach to Pistol Shooting Mastery

At Full Circle Tactical Academy, we believe in a holistic and practical approach to mastering pistol shooting. While live fire training is undoubtedly important, we advocate for the significant role that dry fire and airsoft training play in developing a well-rounded shooter. In fact, these methods should constitute 80% of your training regimen. Here’s why we stand by this approach and how it can transform your shooting skills.

Why Dry Fire and Airsoft Training are Crucial

1. Versatility and Accessibility

One of the most compelling reasons to incorporate dry fire and airsoft into your training is their unparalleled versatility. Unlike live fire training, which requires access to a shooting range and the purchase of ammunition, dry fire and airsoft can be practiced almost anywhere, at any time. This flexibility allows our students to integrate training into their daily routines, ensuring consistent practice and improvement.

2. Perfecting Movements and Techniques

If you have a new drill to work on, you can perfect the movements with an airsoft pistol or a SIRT (Shot Indicating Resetting Trigger) pistol. These tools provide immediate feedback on your technique, enabling you to make real-time adjustments and refine your skills before ever firing a live round. This method ensures that when you do get to the range, you’re already performing at a high level.

3. Correcting Training Scars

Training scars are bad habits or incorrect techniques that can develop over time. Dry fire training is an excellent way to identify and correct these issues. By focusing on the fundamentals without the distractions of recoil and noise, you can make the necessary adjustments to improve your shooting performance. This targeted practice helps eliminate bad habits, ensuring your techniques are sound and effective.

4. Cost-Effective Training

Ammunition and range fees can add up quickly, making frequent live fire training a costly endeavor. Dry fire and airsoft training, on the other hand, are much more economical. You can practice more frequently without worrying about the financial burden, leading to greater improvement over time. This cost-effective approach allows for more consistent and comprehensive training.

5. Building Muscle Memory

Consistent practice is key to developing muscle memory. By incorporating dry fire and airsoft into your training regimen, you can perform more repetitions, reinforcing the correct techniques and movements until they become second nature. This muscle memory is crucial when it comes to performing under pressure in real-world scenarios, where automatic and precise reactions are essential.

The Role of Range Time

While we advocate for dry fire and airsoft to make up the bulk of your training, range time still plays a vital role. The range provides the opportunity to deal with the recoil and noise of live fire, offering valuable feedback on your performance. It allows you to test the skills and techniques you've honed through dry fire and airsoft training in a live environment, ensuring you are fully prepared for any situation. Essentially, range time is where you validate and refine what you’ve practiced in a controlled setting.

Choosing the Right Instructor

At Full Circle Tactical Academy, we emphasize the importance of finding an instructor who understands and advocates for the integration of dry fire and airsoft training. If your instructor doesn't believe in the effectiveness of these methods, it may be time to find a new one. A well-rounded training regimen that includes dry fire and airsoft practices is essential for developing and maintaining your shooting skills. An instructor who supports and guides you through these techniques will help you become a more proficient and confident shooter.

My last two tactical cents:

Dry fire and airsoft training are invaluable components of a comprehensive pistol shooting regimen. They offer versatility, cost-effectiveness, and the opportunity to perfect movements and correct training scars. By dedicating 80% of your training to these methods, you can build muscle memory and refine your skills, making your range time more productive and meaningful. Embrace the importance of dry fire and airsoft training, and you'll see significant improvements in your shooting performance.

At Full Circle Tactical Academy, we are committed to providing our students with the best training methods available. By incorporating dry fire and airsoft into your practice routine, you can achieve a higher level of proficiency and readiness. Start today and transform your shooting skills with our holistic approach to training.

Saturday Evening Meditations:

To laugh often and much:
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived.

This is to have succeeded.

One morning in Sweden, a girl named Greta woke up to a perfect world, one where there were no petroleum products . She tossed aside her cotton sheet and wool blanket and stepped out onto a dirt floor covered with willow bark that had been pulverized with rocks. “What’s this?” she asked.
“Pulverized willow bark,” replied her fairy godmother.
“What happened to the carpet?” she asked.
“The carpet was nylon, made from butadiene and hydrogen cyanide, both made from petroleum,”.
Greta smiled, acknowledging that adjustments are necessary to save the planet, and moved to the sink to brush her teeth where instead of a toothbrush, she found a willow, mangled on one end to expose wood fibre bristles.
“Your toothbrush?” noted her godmother, “Also nylon.”
“Where’s the water?” asked Greta.
“Down the road in the canal,” ‘Just make sure you avoid water with cholera in it”
“Why’s there no running water?” Greta asked.
“Well,” said her godmother, who happened to teach engineering at MIT, “Where do we begin?” There followed a long monologue about how sink valves need elastomer seats and how copper pipes contain copper, which has to be mined and how it’s impossible to make all-electric earth-moving equipment with no gear lubrication or tires and how ore has to be smelted to a make metal, and that’s tough to do with only electricity as a source of heat, and even if you use only electricity, the wires need insulation, which is petroleum-based, and though most of Sweden’s energy is produced in an environmentally friendly way because of hydro and nuclear, if you do a mass and energy balance around the whole system, you still need lots of petroleum products like lubricants and nylon and rubber for tires and asphalt for filling potholes and wax and iPhone plastic and elastic to hold your underwear up while operating a copper smelting furnace and . . .
“What’s for breakfast?” interjected Greta.
"Fresh, range-fed chicken eggs,” replied her godmother. “Raw.”
“How so, raw?” inquired Greta.
And again, Greta was told about the need for petroleum products like transformer oil and scores of petroleum products essential for producing metals for frying pans and was educated about how you can’t have a petroleum-free world and then cook eggs. Unless you rip your front fence up and start a fire and carefully cook your egg in an orange peel like you do in Boy Scouts.
“But I want poached eggs like my Aunt Tilda makes,” lamented Greta.
“Tilda died this morning,” “Bacterial pneumonia.”
“What?!” interjected Greta. “No one dies of bacterial pneumonia! We have penicillin.”
“Not anymore,” “The production of penicillin requires chemical extraction using isobutyl acetate, which, if you know your organic chemistry, is petroleum-based. Lots of people are dying, which is problematic because there’s not any easy way of disposing of the bodies since backhoes need hydraulic oil and crematoriums can’t really burn many bodies- being used on the black market for roasting eggs and staying warm.”

The Tactician Called Gordon Ryan.

The Forgotten Garami Art.

In today's fast-paced martial sports world, where instant gratification is often prioritized, the value of studying is often overlooked. Many individuals believe that practice alone is sufficient to master a skill or subject.

They have all the ouzze pieces but they can't make the “picture” However, studying is a crucial component that not only enhances the learning process but also leads to a deeper understanding and long-term retention of knowledge. Whether it's learning a musical instrument, mastering Jiu-Jitsu like Gordon Ryan, or excelling academically, studying provides a solid foundation for success.

Don’t give your time away for free.

It is often said that people don't value what they receive for free. This statement holds true in various aspects of life, whether it be material possessions, services, or even intangible gifts such as time and effort. While there are exceptions to this generalization, it is a common observation that human nature tends to undervalue things that come without a price tag.

One of the primary reasons behind this phenomenon is the perception of worth. When something is obtained without any cost, it is often seen as having little or no value. Believe me, I have been at the receiving end of this, where I gave away my time, knowledge, and money to only in the end be stabbed in the back by the very people that I helped:

This is because our society has conditioned us to associate value with monetary worth. We tend to believe that the more we pay for something, the more valuable it must be. Consequently, when we receive something for free, we subconsciously assume that it must be of lesser quality or importance.

Another factor contributing to the lack of appreciation for free things is the absence of effort or sacrifice on our part. When we invest time, energy, or money into acquiring something, we develop a sense of ownership and attachment to it.

This emotional connection enhances our perception of its value. However, when something is handed to us without any effort, we fail to develop that same level of attachment. As a result, we are more likely to take it for granted or overlook its significance.

Furthermore, the abundance of free options in today's world has desensitized us to their value. With the rise of the internet and digital platforms, we have access to an overwhelming amount of free content, services, and products.

This constant exposure to free offerings has led to a sense of entitlement, where we expect things to be readily available without any cost. Consequently, we fail to recognize the effort, resources, and expertise that go into creating and providing these free offerings.

However, it is important to note that not everyone falls into this category. There are individuals who genuinely appreciate and value what they receive for free. These individuals understand the true worth of things beyond their monetary value.

They recognize the generosity and goodwill behind the act of giving, and they express gratitude for the opportunities and blessings that come their way.

In conclusion, while it is a common observation that people don't value what they receive for free, it is not a universal truth. The perception of worth, the absence of effort, and the abundance of free options contribute to this phenomenon.

However, it is essential to cultivate a mindset of gratitude and appreciation for the things we receive without any cost. By recognizing the value in these gifts, we can break free from the notion that something must have a price tag to be truly valuable.
