Imo Traditional Ruler Kidnapped In His Palace.

Gunmen on Saturday abducted another traditional ruler in the Orodo Autonomous Community in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, Eze Samuel Ohiri.

The heavily armed four-member gang stormed the residence of the former chairman of the Imo Council of Traditional Rulers in a green Toyota Highlander, according to the News Agency of Nigeria in a press commentary sighted by Foresight News&Tv

“They arrived in a commando style and headed straight into the palace where they kidnapped the traditional ruler, but his cousin, who was with him, managed to escape.

“They dragged the traditional ruler into their vehicle and drove towards Umuaka-Orlu Road,’’ a palace source said on the condition of anonymity.

But confirming the abduction, the Police Public Relations Officer in Imo, Henry Okoye, said the command had begun an investigation into the matter.

“Police have started an intense investigation and we have taken some steps to ensure that the victim is rescued and his kidnappers arrested.

“The suspects will be made to face the full wrath of the law when arrested,’’ Okoye said.

On November 25, 2023, gunmen kidnapped the traditional ruler of Otulu Autonomous Community in Ezinihitte-Mbaise LGA, Eze Joe Achulor, in a similar manner.

Achulor was killed on the same day and his co**se was dumped on Mbutu Road, a neighbouring community in Aboh-Mbaise.

On July 17, 2023, the traditional ruler of Ezuhu Umuamadi Nguru Autonomous Community in Aboh Mbaise, Eze James Nnamdi (Mirioma), was also gruesomely murdered by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

Nigeria Not Different From Somalia – Plateau gov

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has warned that the country may become another Somalia if serious steps were not taken to curb the spate of killings and other forms of violent crimes.

The governor spoke to Foresight News&Tv in Jos, the state capital on Saturday when he received former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogora, who led some serving and former members of the House on a condolence visit to the state following the recent massacre of about 200 people in Bokkos, Mangu and Barkin Ladi local government areas by terrorists.

Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the former Speaker for always identifying with the state and urged him not to be silent but to keep pushing for the interest of the people.

“There is a deliberate orchestrated plan to cause mayhem to discomfort us. We may be knocked down, but we are not knocked out. Our spirits are not broken. God has placed us where we are, and He will preserve us.”

The governor, who expressed regret that the killings had continued unabated on the Plateau for many years, noted that Nigeria risked becoming like Somalia if the security challenges confronting it is not addressed

“It is unfortunate that this circle has continued for years. We are praying that as a nation we will get it right so that we toe the path of justice that we don’t allow people to slip into self-help because once we allow the people to go into self-help, we will become another Somalia.

“There is an economy that has been built around this insecurity. We need to know who the financiers are and who paid for the hundreds of AK47 rifles. Where did they get them from,” Mutfwang queried.

Earlier, Dogara criticised the way and manner President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was handling the security challenge facing the country and advised him not to toe the ignoble path of his predecessors.

Dogara said Tinubu’s predecessors only mourned victims of killings in press statements, thereby reducing themselves to mourners-in-chief instead of taking responsibility as commanders-in-chief

He urged the President to rise to the occasion and use every available coercive apparatus to locate the perpetrators and sponsors of violence across the country and bring them to justice.

Dogara maintained that those responsible for the genocide and o**y of violence were out to end the ways of life of Nigerians and must be stopped.

Gynaecologists Advice Ladies To Make Use Of Vaginal Rings To Reduce Chances Of Contacting HIV.

Maternal health experts have advocated the introduction and adoption of vaginal rings that protect against Human immunodeficiency virus.

The long-practising gynaecologists, in separate interviews with newsmen captured by Foresight News&Tv stated that the introduction of the VRs would contribute to the reduction of new HIV infections.

According to the World Health Organisation, HIV is an infection that attacks the body’s immune system. It can be transmitted through contact with the blood, breast milk, semen and vaginal secretions from persons living with HIV.

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS, a global alliance of 11 United Nations organisations that aims to end Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome by 2030, says that 39 million people globally were living with HIV in 2022.

Globally, 85.6 million people have become infected with HIV and 40.4 million people have died from AIDS-related illnesses.

In Nigeria, about 1.9 million people were estimated to be living with HIV in 2021.

Data from the WHO also shows that HIV is the leading cause of death among women of reproductive age and accounts for 60 per cent of new infections.

The Vaginal rings contain a drug called dapivirine that slowly releases into the body of the woman for a month.

It is used as pre-exposure prophylaxis, particularly used by people at risk of HIV to prevent them from getting infected.

The device is currently used in a few countries and is recommended by WHO.

WHO also recommended that additional preventive measures like the use of condoms be used together with the vaginal rings.

Recently, a company in South Africa announced its plans to begin local production of the rings to make them available and affordable to its citizens.

Speaking on the development with newsmen, a Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Oluwarotimi Akinola, stated that the vaginal rings are a pre-exposure medicine that prevents against being infected with HIV.

The former president of the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria further confirmed that the VR was currently unavailable in Nigeria, stating that its introduction into the country was beneficial to the prevention of the HIV spread in the country.

“In theory, it would be wonderful because it would reduce the burden of the need for the procurement of highly active antiretroviral drugs. It would certainly help but it is not yet available in Nigeria. Trials (of the device) have shown that it contributed positively in that area.

“We are always advocating that people have options because the availability of options is usually good. Should it be brought into Nigeria, it would be beneficial and it would be another weapon in the arsenal,” Akinola said.

The gynaecologist also urged Nigerians to know their HIV status to prevent the spread of the infection.

The don said, “The major way to prevent new infection is for everyone to know their status. That everyone uses prophylaxis at all times is not going to work. The use of highly active antiretroviral drugs suppresses viral load so that infected people cannot infect others if their viral load is low, less than 1,000 copies per ml. So the implication is for people to know their status and use their drugs.”

Also, a Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano State, Dr Sule Abdullahi, said that the dapivirine contained in the vaginal ring is an HIV preventive drug that was beneficial to reducing the infection rate of HIV.

The gynaecologist called for the adoption of the device in Nigeria, stating that the drug’s effectiveness has been established through research and was necessary, especially among persons with multiple partners.

Commenting on the affordability and availability of the rings in Nigeria, the gynaecologist said that the VRs might be expensive at first but could be subsidised through funding from the government and non-governmental organisations.

“It has shown to be 50 per cent effective but they have not been used worldwide. The NGOs are yet to come in so they are a bit expensive but they are not yet available in Nigeria and are only available in East African countries such as Zimbabwe, Kenya, South Africa and countries around that area.

“But when it is brought to Nigeria, it is going to be mostly used by those at risk and as it becomes more available the NGOs can step in to help subsidise the amount or buy it and give it free to people to prevent the spread of HIV.

“Any place where you have people who are at risk, it is a perfect option, especially when it is combined with a condom. I think Nigeria should get it right. When something has just started somewhere, one needs to watch out and see how it is before one quickly grabs it. But the result is coming out, one day, we will see it in Nigeria and publicised among those at risk of contracting the disease,” Abdullahi said.

He noted that the production of the VRs in the country depended on the readiness and ability of the pharmaceutical companies to produce them.

The gynaecologist added that if the production was not possible, it could be imported into the country.

On what Nigeria needs to do to meet the 2030 elimination of AIDS target, the senior medical consultant asserted that prevention rules for the disease must be followed.

“Abstinence means that unmarried persons, persons with unstable partners should not engage in casual s*x. Be faithful to one partner and those who cannot do that should use condoms; the correct and persistent use of condoms will prevent a lot of new infections.

“Drugs: those who are at increased risk are those who are to use these rings, there the oral drugs which they can use to prevent new infections and PLWHAs should comply with their drug regimen because when they do, the viral load would be pushed down to undetectable level. As a result, they won’t be able to transmit to other people and prevent transmission to other people,” Abdullahi said.

I am In Charge In River State,I Will Prove It --- Nyesom Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bar. Nyesom Wike, on Saturday, visited the National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Victor Giadom, raising speculation of another round of political realignment.

Information gathered by Foresight News&Tv revealed that Wike, who arrived in Port Harcourt, was hosted by Giadom in Bera, his country home in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State on Saturday.

The minister and ex Rivers State governor expressed happiness to have mended fences with his estranged friend, Giadom, who was Commissioner for Works under former Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Wike, in a video seen by our correspondent, boasted that the person in charge would soon be known.

The former governor has been at loggerheads with the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara. But during the visit, Wike said, “Forget about these hungry noisemakers on the road. When the time comes, we will know who is in charge and who is not in charge. There is a time for everything.

“This is not time for politics. When the time comes, we will know who is who. If you like, abuse me as you want. If you like, employ everybody on social media. I have never bothered myself one day to know who is abusing me.

“Politics will come. We didn’t contest elections based on social media. We spoke to the people; they listened and believed in us”.

Speaking on his visit to Giadom, Wike said he was not in Bera (Giadom’s hometown) for politics, saying his visit should not be misinterpreted.

He stated, “I came here to visit my friend, Giadom. Let nobody misinterpret why I came here. That is why I came with PDP and APC leaders. It is a private visit to my friend”.

The FCT Minister however explained that Giadom had gathered his people to show he was still politically relevant, stressing that politics was about impacting positively on the people.

“I have never been in doubt about your capacity (referring to Giadom) to relate with your people. Politics is about impact. If you want to be a successful politician you must impact your people so that when you call them they will answer you,” Wike said.

Wike further said he is loved and valued by many across the country because he served the people, which is why many times people want to take pictures with him.

On his realignment with Giadom, he said: “Party will come and go and friendship will remain. We have made our mistakes, we are all humans but friendship remains.

“When I was appointed a minister, Victor Giadom led a team to congratulate me. It does not matter where you belong what is important is the interest of Rivers. If you want to be a successful politician, greedy ones will not like you.

“Nobody has done well in politics without enemies. Those who hate you are in the minority. Those who love you are in the majority”.

Wike stated that it was during his tenure as Rivers Governor that people heard much about the state, even as he vowed to continue supporting the Tinubu-led government.
He added, “When I was governor, Nigeria heard about Rivers State. That is what I have always preached. So, nobody should be afraid. I have no regrets when I stood by with my colleagues and friends that the presidency must go to the south.

“There was nothing I was not offered. But I said no. That is why I will continue to support the government of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu. As I am going back home, I am going with the satisfaction that my friend is back.

“This visit I came today will cause a lot of trouble. Some people will start visiting now. Follow who knows the road. Continue to support Victor and all your leaders who mean well for all of you.

“For the first time in history, Ogoni man is the chairman of works. I am happy that Ledum Mitee is a member of the NNPCL. Let nobody do community problems. When you do that development will not come”.

Speaking earlier, Giadom described Wike’s visit as the homecoming of a brother, a friend and a leader and assured him that they would support a team he would lead in Rivers.

Giadom said, “Today is a homecoming of a brother, a friend and a leader. I stand here on this ground to let you know that we have lived well, paid our dues and contributed to the development of this place.

“Be assured that we will support the team you will lead in Rivers to provide support for our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is the main reason we are all here today. This place nobody can challenge any visitor on this soil. We are in firm control of this place.”

Some of the prominent politicians present were, Senator Barry Mpigi, Senator Allwell Onyeso, Senator Philip Adudua, Chief Dan Orbih, Sen Samuel Anyanwu Amb Desmond Akawor

Senator Sandy Onoh, Ambassador Maurine Tamuno, Felix Obuah, RT Hon Dumnamene Dekor, Hon Felix Nweke, Hon Emma Deeyah and Hon Igo Aguma.

We Use Naked Women To Entertain People In Music – Video director, Unlimited LA

Popular cinematographer, Buari Olalekan Oluwasegun, aka Unlimited L.A, has said the infusion of foreign cultures and nudity in Nigerian music videos is to appeal to music consumers.

He said some artists ask video directors to infuse particular culture or nudity in their music videos based on consumers’ requests or target audiences.

According to him during an interactive session with Foresight News&Tv Unlimited L. A said, “Talking about it [infusion of foreign cultures and nudity in Nigerian music videos], I think Nigerians are the most traveled people. I read it somewhere.

“What we do as music video directors is to take instructions from the artists. Some artists may say they want their fans in the U.S., Europe, or Africa to relate to a particular music video. So the consumer is key. Sometimes, we [music video directors] just put everything [infuse different cultures] together and throw it out there.

“I think it’s because of Nigerians in the diaspora that make us infuse foreign cultures in our music videos. It’s not as if we don’t have our own culture. We have our own culture too. But because we are targeting a wide range of audiences, we have to infuse different cultures in music videos.”

He said even though some foreign cultures may appear as “eroding our cultural respect, decency” they incorporated into Nigerian music videos to appeal to the audience.

Speaking further, Unlimited L.A admitted that the Nigerian cinematography industry has made tremendous progress, noting that some years ago most Nigerian music videos were shot outside the country but not most Afrobeats music videos are filmed in Nigeria.

FG clears N12bn Outstanding Allowances Owed Super Eagles, Others

President Bola Tinubu has cleared the outstanding payment that the Federal Government owed the Super Eagles and other sporting teams of the country.

According to a statement on the X handle of Tinubu’s Media Centre, on Sunday monitored by Foresight News&Tv , the payment entails the clearing of the senior national team coach salaries running up to 15 months, payments of allowances and promises due to the senior national teams, females, and Under-20 national team.

The statement reads, “President has approved the payment of N12 billion outstanding backlog for Nigeria’s National teams of various sports, which includes Super Eagles and others.

“The payment entails the clearing of the senior national team coach salaries running up to 15 months, payments of allowances and promises due to the senior national teams, females, and Under-20 national team.

“This is coming at a time when the Super Eagles of Nigeria are preparing to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, which is billed to start later this month.”

You will recall that in 2020, the Super Eagles complained that the Federal Government was yet to release the N1.5bn approved for them to compete at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Eagles finished third in the tournament behind winners Algeria and runners-up Senegal.

A top source in the Nigeria Football Federation said that the NFF had to divert the funds meant for the Super Falcons and the Flying Eagles to prepare the Eagles for the tournament.

Also, in January 2022, Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa said FG owed his teammates bonuses for two games.

Musa disclosed this in a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday as the Super Eagles few days to the Nations Cup.
“Regarding the bonus, I think they are just owing us for two games now. Yeah, two games,” Musa said. “There is no other outstanding outside these two games.”

Musa added that the players will “be having a meeting with the coach and maybe the NFF officials so we can take the next step forward.”

General Hospital Odan Lagos yet To Replace Faulty Elevator That Took The Life Of Dr. Diaso

It is painful that five months after an elevator accident led to the death of a House Officer, Dr Vwaere Diaso, at the General Hospital, Odan Lagos, the equipment was yet to be replaced.

It will interest you to note that we had brought reports that Diaso was killed after the elevator crashed from the 10th floor to the ground floor of the 131-year-old hospital.

A colleague of the deceased who spoke with our reporter when he visited the scene of the accident in August 2023 said that the management of the hospital was aware of the poor state of the elevator.

“On multiple occasions, the elevator has stopped while we were inside. And there’s no maintenance,” he said.

Our investigation into what the state government has done concerning the issue unravel the fact that the panel set up by the state government to look into the tragedy had revealed that the doctor did not die immediately after the crash but was trapped in the plunged and damaged elevator for an hour before being extracted and provided medical care.

The government had gone further to sack and blacklisted the facility managers, also suspended is the General Manager of Lagos State Infrastructure and Asset Management Agency, Adenike Adekanbi.

A few days after the doctor was buried, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu also announced his visit to the hospital on his Instagram page, where he mentioned that speaking to the house officers present at the hospital and “they gave me an insight into their needs, and I gave my word that we have already got on it.”

All this insight prompted a second visit to the hospital by our reporter to find out the level of work there to discover that for five months after the incidence, doctors in the residence have resorted to taking the stairs to their apartments because a new elevator was yet to be installed.

Our correspondent found out that the exit area to the lift was barricaded with a three-pieced black marine construction board.

A larger poster “Restricted area, construction site. No unauthorised access” alongside other words, numbers, and symbols pasted on the board.

When contacted, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health, Olusegun Ogboye, both insisted that the contract to replace the lift and renovate the building had been awarded to the contractors.

But no sign of renovation or billboards proposing the beginning of renovation on the premises could be seen at the time our correspondent visited the place.
