👻 Audio club is gearing up for the spooky season with a creative audio stories workshop and a halloween inspired audio challenge! 🕷️🕸️

We want your spine-chilling tales of local haunts and eerie spots. Tell us about the unexplained phenomena, haunted houses, or local legends right in your own neighborhood. 🔮

The stories can be true, fictional or somewhere in-between! Bring your story idea to a meet-up to get ideas, feedback or potentially pair up with another storyteller to make a short audio story together.

To help get your creative juices flowing, we are SO excited to have and Benny Redfern from the artist collective hosting our online meet up on scripting audio stories. 🎭

This week, we’re diving into the depths of family ties with bilingual stories that transcend language barriers. You will hear how the human voice alone, with its raw emotion and melody, can connect us all, even when words fall short. Whether it’s an emotional conversation about surviving cancer or a poignant reflection during a mother’s funeral, these stories will stay with you long after the episode ends. Don’t miss out on this journey of resilience and connection.

Ever felt the frustration of not understanding a language, yet still feeling the weight of the words? Our first story blends English and Mandarin, weaving a heartfelt conversation between siblings.

The second takes us back to the Vietnam War, where a daughter’s eulogy for her mother reveals deep scars of conflict and love.

These stories are not just heard—they’re felt. Tune in to be moved in ways you didn’t expect!

This week, we’re sharing a collection of stories on a heavy but important subject. You’ll hear stories contain references to gendered violence, including domestic, family, or sexual violence. Please listen with care. Data shows a 30% increase in intimate partner violence over the past year, with 60 women being killed by men. These numbers are heartbreaking and unacceptable.

But people aren’t staying silent. Across the country, demonstrations against domestic, family, and sexual violence are taking place, with more planned in the coming weeks.

In Alice Springs, where homicides are occurring at seven times the national average, funding for countering intimate partner violence has fallen short. Yet, the relentless efforts of advocates are pushing the government to take action. We hear an example of this in our first story, where Jasmyn encounters someone in distress in a public park—a stark reminder of the importance of speaking out and supporting one another in the fight against gendered violence.

Please tag Tala, Sarah, Outloud Arts - you’ll find their instagram handles in the script :)

Whether you‘re a believer or a sceptic, join us as we share personal stories that blend the spiritual with the everyday.

In our first tale, Erin recounts journeying back to her hometown in Hubei China, where she celebrated a cousin’s wedding and honored ancestors. Through rituals and family gatherings, she explores the comfort and connection found in age-old traditions.
Tune in for an intimate look at how she navigates life‘s mysteries and the legacies of those who came before us!

⏮️In last week’s episode, ‘Palestine: Everyday’ Amal shared her powerful memories of growing up in Aida Refugee Camp in the West Bank, Palestine. Through radio stories crafted by young people over a decade ago, we glimpsed the resilient spirit of youth navigating life amidst conflict, with unwavering hopes for the future.⏮️

She opens up about her longing to return to her family’s land, the bittersweet emotions of her visits, and the deep connection she maintains with her homeland. We also delve into the story of Amal’s brother, Anas, a community leader and young father, who was taken into administrative detention last November.▶️

Interwoven with Amal’s story, we feature voices from Radio Lajee, sharing narratives about the importance of knowing and loving your land. our episode concludes with a poignant piece from 2008 by young people in Aida camp, speaking about Gaza—a story that, heartbreakingly, could have been told today.✨

🎙️ Over the next two weeks, we’re playing stories from a radio project from the Aida Refugee Camp in the West Bank, Palestine. It’s called Radio Lajee. 🇵🇸

Tune into the first installment "Palestine: Everyday" to hear firsthand accounts from young Palestinian refugees as they share their experiences of growing up in Aida Camp and preserving their heritage through storytelling.

In this feature, Layan Azza interviews her grandfather about the realities faced by Palestinian refugees in Aida Camp 60 years ago. He shares memories of being forcibly displaced from his village in 1948 during the Nakba. Four generations of Palestinians have since lived in the camp. The tents have given way to concrete housing and infrastructure. And a population of over 5000 people.

Join us in honoring their narratives and understanding the impact of displacement on generations.
