Occulto will be at Sprint Milano, this week, on November 25 and 26, from 11 am to 9 pm. We're so so happy to be once more part of this very unique independent publishers' gathering after a quite long, and mainly pandemic-related, break. And we're so happy to present for the first time in Milano several new publications that we brought to life in the meanwhile. First and foremost, Alos's art book "Embrace the Darkness" that will be released exactly on the first day of Sprint, and accompanies her latest 12-inch vinyl. The book and vinyl edition extends and expands her new ritual, developed during a residence on the island of Stromboli. The artist will be present, and shipping vinyls is quite expensive, so if you're in Milano you may take the chance and come get your copy. Other publications we will exhibit and sell at Sprint include our new poetry zine in print and sound RADIO, with works by Sandra Sarala, Ariston Baton, and Deanna Radford, the artist's edition Moonflower by Martina della Valle, and the latest, although not very new, Occulto issue, Occulto 7: Art-I-Ficial. You'll find us at Spazio Reginagiovanna, a venue in Via Maiocchi that Sprint will be using for the first time to host, among others, publishers that also releases physical media formats like records and tapes. I will bring also some CD compilations curated by Boring Machines, the very few copies we have left, for this special occasion. What else? We hope to see you there!

Starting tomorrow, a selection of Occulto publications will be available at Fracto 7th Edition, hosted at the ACUD Kunsthaus. Occulto has collaborated with Fracto in many ways over the years and, while we can't attend this year's edition for lack of ubiquity, we recommend all Berlin film lovers to go! I especially recommend the 2-day focus on Milena Gierke and the Selection #4 with the German Premiere of a film by Anna Marziano. Thanks to Giuseppe Boccassini and Labor Neunzehn for making another Fracto edition possible, and to Kunsthaus Acud for hosting it.

Occulto is happy to announce yet another special release, Alos's art book "Embrace the Darkness", with photos by Giulio di Mauro, original illustrations by Gio Pistone, and texts By Klaus Miser, Renzo Zaia and Giulia Ferrato, among others. The publication will accompany a 12-inch vinyl record co-produced by Archaeological Records and Dio Drone.
Preorders are starting today, November 2nd, on the Dio Drone and Archaeological Records Bandcamp pages. The release date is November 25th, 2023, the anniversary of a tsunami caused by a volcanic eruption in Stromboli in 1343. The vinyl+book edition will be first presented at SPRINT Milano on November 25-26, 2023.
Alos’s new ritual "Embrace the Darkness" emerged from an on-site, practice-based artistic research undertaken on the island of Stromboli in the summer of 2022. It’s her most intimate and complex project, completed twenty years after the emergence of her artistic identity. During 2021, Alos went through the darkness, first struggling with serious illness, then going through a hard physical rehabilitation involving also the recovery of her lost voice. Only six months after a long hospitalization, the idea of elaborating the experience with a performance was born. The volcano emerged as the chosen symbolic system to create a synthesis and a narration before and beyond the human, tracing a path that could lead from darkness to light. In June 2022, the invitation by the festival Marosi in Stromboli promptly enabled the incubation of the new vision on the slopes of one of the most active volcanoes in Europe.
One year after the residency in Stromboli, and having already presented the ritual on several occasions (Marosi Festival in Stromboli, Lenz Foundation in Parma, Teatro Rasi in Ravenna), Alos has further expanded the research into the edition, printed in 300 copies, that combines sound, visuals, and texts.
With this release, Occulto continues working its way to becoming a small publishing house, and builds on its decades-long active involvement in the experimental music scene, which included the organisation of two performances by Alos in Berlin, in 2015 and 2018. It’s a great pleasure to collaborate once more with her, this time as editor and publisher.

Jeremy Young is a composer and improviser of concrète electronic tape music from Montreal, Quebec. He is a member of experimental poetry_sound unit Cloud Circuit, alongside writer Deanna Radford, and the electroacoustic modern classical trio Sontag Sh**un. His work makes use of a sine and square wave oscillator system, analog 1/4" tape loops, captured and filtered radio and EMF signal, and foley-inspired sound treatments from amplified surfaces and objects. Young's improvisational and compositional techniques are influenced by Cagean aleatoricism as well as haptics-based praxis and deep listening. His primary artistic interests lie in the analog treatment of surface-based audio (piezo mic'd objects and surfaces, manipulating tape and tone via texture and voltage) and the notion that both the audio signal and the media on which it is recorded, edited and played back, should equally contribute to the creation of a sonic narrative, an underlying principle of musique concrète. He has performed across Canada, the US, UK, Asia, and Europe.

His recent solo LP, Amaro, was released in May 2021 on Thirsty Leaves Music, and features contributions from multidisciplinary artists Vito Ricci, Ida Toninato, Markus Floats, Pauline Kim Harris, Johannes Bergmark, Deanna Radford, Dolphin Midwives, and filmmaker Tomonari Nishikawa.

Alessandra Eramo is a Berlin-based artist and vocalist who works with performance and installation, text-sound composition, video and drawing, exploring latent acoustic territories of the human voice and noise as socio-political matter.
In her "Solo for Voice and Electronics" Alessandra Eramo creates a collage of extended vocal techniques, urban and industrial soundscapes moving sound towards the most visceral layers of poetic expression. In an immersive performance, she interweaves her voice and sound poetry eruptions through a dynamic use and manipulation of pre-recorded sonic material, microphones, voices and unknown languages, field recordings, theremin, and magnetic tapes. In reference to sound poetry, her concert generate a physical experience, like a spiritual exercise to be shared with the listeners.

*** textîles – threading speculative archipelagoes / Excerpt #1: stitch and bitch – social sewing with Agente Costura ***
On October 23, 6-8 p.m., Agente Costura will gather a small group of persons and their sewing projects for collaborative experiments and skill sharing. In her own words, "stitch and bitch is a term used as early as the 1940s, when groups of women would meet for needle work as a subversive strategy to organize themselves for social and political action. Historically, this practice of masquerading resistance, critical thought and action behind a seemingly 'harmless' group of women meeting to do crafts together goes way back before the term came about, and there are numerous examples around the world. It was, and still is, a safe space to put craft and activism together. Of course, my stitch and bitch is open to all genders!" if you wish to attend, please register here: https://www.occultomagazine.com/registration-textiles-at.../
