I wrote a new song at 5 PM yesterday and was running it at the FC space with Jerry by 8. Wild writing process - lyrics came first, which is unusual for me. Wrote the whole thing in my notes app before I even got a guitar out. Worked it out musically on Christine, in the FFCCCF tuning. Sounds really cool.

It’s called NEW, and it’s about the through-line that exists within each of us, regardless of time, change, and experience. We talk a lot about outgrowing/growing past certain people, places, and things. But I think it’s also true that some things don’t really change within us, and sometimes it’s those immovable pieces that create incompatibility with others. Like, I had this long friendship with someone that fell apart a couple years ago, and at the heart of it was who each were. Not who we’d become, but who we’d always been. I’ve always been a person who hangs out with electric guitars and doesn’t want a standard life. Always. And that’s not compatible with everything, everyone. And maybe that’s okay. Song also has this fu***ng amazing dissonant chord in the riff that makes me feel very, very alive. Thank the universe for music.
