I am way behind on uploading new episodes so here is episode 16 from a while back (no 15 cause the audio on the zoom call was BAD!)
Here we talk about not-so-recent DC layoffs subsequent restructuring AND we talk about the amazing Zdarsky and Checchetto Daredevil, specifically the "Inferno" story arc.

So Chris PIne is Steve Trevor in the DC Comics cinematic universe and far far away Marvel are circling Rachel McAdams to play leading lady in Dr.Strange (rumors are it's Night Nurse).
Both these actors are good at what they do and their names carry weight for moviegoers. It's definitely smart on the part of the studio to hire them in order to hit a wider audience range but are the roles adequate for the star power thats going to fill them?
Imagine going from Captain Kirk to Col. Steve Trevor. io9 bluntly referred to the character as Wonder Woman's "Dude-in-Distress" which is oversimplifying him but is in range of what the characters function is in the comic world.
Meanwhile Marvel's record of love interests and female characters should have McAdams really thinking about taking the job. She could be joining Natalie Portman, Evangeline Lilly and Scarlett Johansson (since AoU) as another example of a solid actor being stifled due to the studios lack of care and poor handling of their female characters.
A character relegated as Dr.Strange's source of angst or his DiD or soothing confidant or as a Mary Sue to Strange's fantastical powers sounds tiresome for everyone and maybe thats because Marvel has done all of them already with Jane Foster, Hope Van Dyne and Black Widow.
One hopes that these two actors and all involved in their respective films will work towards better developed co-leads/love interests and maybe WW or Dr.Strange will break the mould.

Check it! Terry Blas has started a blog for fans to submit redesigns for the White Queen. This is after ComicsAlliance ran an article focused on Emma's controversial wardrobe history. An interesting idea. Any artist friends want to give it a go?

allerdrake allerdrake: another piece for emmafrostfashion. this one i sort of envision as being her politicking – because one of the things that really should’ve happened in uxm vol. 3 is emma playing the game of thrones for the sake of the new mutant revolution, while scott’s down in the trenches,…

From yesterday’s Ant-Man Annual, we meet Raz Malhotra. Who gets used by Egghead to do some naughty things. The Scott Lang Ant-Man and Hank Pym Giant-Man get involved and the day is saved, all in flashback. However in the present, post-Secret Wars day we get to see a little behind the scenes of…

These are screengrabs from Tom Brevoort's tumblr where he answers peoples questions about Marvel 's upcoming hip-hop variants. The questions focus on the appropriation of an ethnic art form and the hypocrisy that exists when a company uses a cultural aspect of a particular ethnic group (in this case hip-hop,rap) to promote diversity but doesn't hire people of colour to be involved and share their views.
To Tom's credit he answers the questions well albeit after a dismissive start and gives hope for a more diverse range of creators in the near future at Marvel.
Like my post on 'Strange Fruit', this highlights similar issues of race, culture and the issues surrounding both being told in the right way by the right people.
Due to the online discourse concerning both 'Strange Fruit' and these variants I have learned how essential it is to involve members of the community from which you are drawing inspiration and earning credit and capital.Within minorities are people who are eager to use their unique views and experiences and they should be given the opportunity in order to produce a more genuine and balanced result within comics and beyond since that is the only way substantial change can happen.

This comic appears to be one of the most polarising issues I have read in a long time. The reviews online range from superb to embarrassing to "this comic shouldn't exist". What is certain is that the comic's story and it's existence is thought provoking.
I (Mike) bought it, read and really enjoyed. My initial impression was Superman meets Django Unchained. I spent today reading a ton of reviews, looking for some response from it's creators (nothing from Waid or Jones, yet) and although I still enjoyed it I do appreciate some of the negative points that have been brought up.
The reviews made me question my own sensibilities when absorbing a story about racism. Undeniably I am part of the privileged 'white' ethnicity and perhaps it blinds me to the problems existing in and because of 'Strange Fruit'.
Please read the first issue and read the reviews online and comment here about what you thought and took from both because I'd appreciate other peoples thoughts.

Strange Fruit from the heavyweight creative team of J.G Jones and Mark Waid provides an intriguing and visceral promise of a sci-fi story set in '20s Mississippi.

Wow. This is big news. Rom!! and possibly Micronauts too!? but Rom!! An old issue of Rom was one of the first comics I owned. Really thought Marvel would get him back but looks like I'll be picking up another IDW title in the near future.
