It's always events season at Soul Arch Media, but this time of year is particularly busy thanks to a not-for-profit project we helped set up to support local photographic artists and filmmakers while showcasing our beautiful city.

From 1st-14th May, catch Flotsam Festival as it rolls across the Gold Coast with ocean-inspired film and photo pop up events spanning beachside towns from Burleigh to Coolangatta.

Staged like a giant arts trail, Flotsam's two week pixel party hosts free and ticketed events including photo and digital exhibitions staged indoor and out, surf cinema nights, live music and more. Don't miss the Flotsam Festival party wave – only on the Gold Coast, only in May.

THIS WEEKEND! On Sunday, Flotsam Festival will be celebrating 50 years of the film that inspired a generation, meticulously remastered in 4K -

Albert Falzon’s 1972 Classic, Morning of the Earth (G) is internationally renowned as one of the greatest surf films of all time. Its psychedelic imagery and audio-visual tour de force captured the spirit of a generation and became an instant benchmark of avant-garde cinema.
Meticulously and completely remastered, each and every one of 150,000 frames was retouched 7 times over, and previously deleted scenes were reintroduced, bringing you the most complete and pristine copy of the film ever seen. It was a 3-year labor of love, and the whole project was independently funded.

Experience the film under the stars atop Kirra Hill, overlooking the break that was immortalized with Michael Peterson’s opening rides in the film. Bring your beanbags or picnic blankets to enjoy the film on the rolling green lawns of the restored, 100 year old school.

The evening will feature live tunes early with plus art installations and photo galleries to explore. Then kick back and enjoy a welcoming chat with one of film's stars and a very special performance by Terry Hannigan playing his track from the original MOTE soundtrack, I'll Be Alright. Don't miss this once-in-50 years experience.

Midway through Jan and we're finally in the swing of 2022, but not before reflecting on 2021 – including several of the community events we filmed that were lucky enough to run between lockdowns!

Here's a social edit of a larger video created for Multicultural Community Council Gold Coast () signature event, International Cafe. Held at to celebrate and the event offered a fun, vibrant and exotic cultural gathering for hundreds of participants of all ages and backgrounds in attendance.

This free community event reflects and celebrates MCCGC's vision of an inclusive community that values cultural diversity. Operating in the Gold Coast region for over 35 years, MCCGC works to ensure people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds have equal access to appropriate and inclusive services and a high quality of life and independence so that everyone in our community feels connected.

Just in time for the holidays has launched a new site – and it's full of videos created by us to showcase a range of services to help you find your flow, including surf coaching, breath training, and kinesiology. From classes, workshops and one on one sessions, Flowstate's new site lets you book in-person and online experiences.

We loved working with Sal from Flowstate to create content to share her story, explain her services, and uncover the ethos behind why she does what she does. Together we also created online downloads and course content to help her clients access helpful information 24/7, whenever they need it. This will also help Sal keep her business flowing (pun intended) no matter what hiccups lie ahead, impervious to borders, restrictions and interruptions.

Want the secret to a long life?

Throwing back this fine Thursday to a case study we filmed with sprightly 100 y.o. Agnes and her daughter Pauline talking about the easy transition to aged care with HillView Aged Care.

The inside tips on how to get to 100 were a bonus!

For Agnes the gardens and sense of privacy were key. For Pauline, the homely touches, caring staff and personalised care gave her piece of mind that her mum was in great hands.

This video was just one of a suite of video content filmed for Hillview's website, including staff introductions, amenity overviews and lots of glowing testimonials from families like Agnes's.

Gold Coast's Currumbin Beach is currently awash with the annual Swell Sculpture Festival. In a year where so many great community events have been forced to cancel, it's so great to see Swell flourishing + continuing to showcase local creatives.

Looks almost ethereally transparent given it was still bright out at 5.15 pm. Captured with a Sony A73 with a 400 mm cannon lens from Bilinga.

This we're flashing back to a story we filmed and edited for the Discovery Channel covering the world's first solar train in Byron Bay.

The immaculately restored 1949 era two carriage heritage train is powered by some pretty remarkable technology – some new, some old (thanks to a 4.6 billion year old power source). By land and by drone, we captured the three kilometre coastal track that links the Byron Town Centre with the burgeoning North Beach precinct and Byron Arts Estate ahead of the line's official opening.

This we're throwing back to a magical fairytale party at for a very special little girl named Savannah that we filmed and edited for

Having battled a cancerous tumour since the age of 17 months, Savannah wanted a fairytale ball to beat all fairytale balls. She wanted to wear a purple princess dress, have a unicorn, fun party games and arrive at the ball in a horse-drawn carriage with one of her brothers beside her dressed as Prince Charming.

And of course, she didn’t want to be the only princess at the ball. The likes of Rapunzel, Belle and Snow White were welcome. So too, her pint-sized princess pals.

Make-A-Wish not only delivered Savannah’s wish, but they also made it happen in a castle - Sunshine Castle Bli Bli on the Sunshine Coast.

We loved creating this video of this brave young girl's magical day not only as a keepsake for Savannah, but to showcase the great work Make-A-Wish do. If you don't already support their work, please consider donating to this amazing organisation that brings so much joy to critically ill children.

They say the darkest hour is just before the dawn, meaning no matter how bleak things currently are there's light coming just over the horizon. Thinking of friends and clients in lockdown south of the border – including all those who've contacted us to postpone or cancel filming bookings for amazing events that they'd spent months + months planning :(
