Struggling Productions
Struggling Productions is a production company started by podcaster/promoter/music guy Ryan Gurnett. It oversees production of The Struggle is Real Buffalo Music Podcast, the re-launch of WNYMusic.com and booking concerts throughout the Buffalo area.
As someone who graduated with a degree in Music Industry and failed to find employment in his field after college, Gurnett uses Struggling Productions as a means to enable music industry students and those beginning their career to get some of the experience they need. As of January 2020, Struggling Productions now offers for-credit internships to SUNY Fredonia students.
The Struggle is Real Buffalo Music Podcast started airing in October of 2017. The podcast, hosted by Gurnett and a cast of others, including Will Webb and Cassidy Dwan, focuses on the everyday struggles of being an independent musician in Buffalo. The podcast showcases local music, discusses area concerts and interviews local music guests of interest.
WNYMusic.com was the very first Buffalo music website. Created in the mid-90’s, the site served as a hub for the Buffalo Music Scene for almost 20 years before it started resembling a ghost town. Gurnett is re-launching the site in early 2020. It will feature a huge directory of local bands, an event calendar, a blog and eventually other features like band classifieds, podcast hosting and message boards.
Struggling Productions has booked concerts and music events areas all over the Western New York area, including Milkie’s Elmwood Lounge, Mohawk Place, the Buffalo-Niagara Hostel, Revolution Gallery, and soon-to-be-opening venue The Stage (formerly Club Infinity).
Struggling Productions believes in paying artists fairly, communicating clearly and treating them with the respect they deserve. It doesn’t work with artists who are negative or toxic influences within the Buffalo music scene. If you want to act like an as***le, you can do it somewhere else.
