Baguio Central School Renovation ( ) and the public forum about the ongoing restoration of the Baguio Central School attended by stakeholders, concerned citizens and two members of the Creative Baguio City Council.
The following (notes) are some of the points raised, discussed and observed during the said public forum.
- It seems that the public forum was called after works has already begun on the school. In short, there was no prior consultation.
- There was a statement from an official about not having the proper permit from LGU Baguio.
- The principal worries about not having enough classrooms.
- The right wing (left if facing the school) of the school was already demolished when it should have been subjected to proper study, evaluation and approval by proper agencies for its historical merits considering that it is more than 50 years old.
- It was the engineering unit of DepED that represented the City Schools Division Office
- Stakeholders, teachers and graduates including Linda Grace Cariño, a descendant of Mateo and Bayosa Cariño aired their sentiments including disgruntlement on how the Heritage Site is being restored.
- The presiding officer, Councilor Vladimir Cayabas acknowledged the sentiments of all the attendees and although there were no real positive result of the forum other than the sharing of information and assurance that some old wood and structural materials and will be replaced probably with modern hardwares. The only unifying satement heard during said forum is ‘ways forward’. Note: the last 2 photos were shot 4-5 years ago.

Teacher’s Day at

★★★★☆ "Baguio Central School stands majestically as among the oldest learning institutions of Baguio. It has produced many leaders who made waves here and abroad. In October 5 2010, I took photos here for a photo essay pictorial on World Teachers Day."

Heritage Site:
Do you know of people who studied at the iconic “Gabaldon” type Baguio Central School?
Said is being renovated and we hope that the contractors restore it the way it should, back to its original shape, look and grandeur.

The Philippine Information Agency is the official public information arm of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines. It is an attached unit of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO). The PIA works with the Office of the President, National Government Agencies, and other public sector entities in communicating their programs, projects, and services to the Filipino people. The agency has a regional office in all 16 regions and has an information center in 72 provinces across the Philippines.

However, the regional office of the Philippine Information Agency in the Cordillera has its own uniqueness and distinction. It is one such facility that functions beyond its expected purpose as mandated by law and I am sharing these images for better appreciation.
Said regional office serves not only the sector that it represents advocating government programs and policies but it has likewise become a platform and sounding board of public-private interactions with the media in tow.
I knew it because I was part of the system right after EDSA 1 when the former National Media Production Center (NMPC) became PIA up to the 2nd term of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Both my wife Helen and I served the government doing information work and we knew what is meant to be in public service doing media relations while engaging in developmental communications.
This album shows the dynamic men and women of PIA-CAR together with their partners in the allied media, LGU and national agencies, students and individuals that represent the varied sectors of the Cordillera community.
