mes, and being nominated at least 9 times. Doug’s professional career began at Flagstaff Studios (formerly W&G Studios) in 1980, where he benefited immensely under the tutorage of renowned experts Ian ‘Mac’ MacKenzie and John French. In 1983, Doug joined the music department at AAV Studios (formerly Armstrong Studios) as Assistant Engineer to the likes of Roger Savage, Ern Rose Ross Cockle and Jimbo Barton. Here Doug was required to record prolifically and under pressure in a vast array of genres. As well as recording with Australian Crawl, Peter Best, Mike Brady, Dear Enemy, Goanna Band, Hunters and Collectors “Human Frailty”, Gavin MacKillop, Nic Garvey from the Motors and others. Doug considers his early years engineering jingles alongside creative directors to be hugely influential in his development as an efficient and professional engineer. Before long, Doug was also in demand for feature film and in 1986 he recorded and mixed the soundtrack for Crocodile Dundee – one of the biggest films in Australian Cinema History. Since then Doug has continued to work on feature films, including Romeo and Juliet alongside Baz Luhrman and Jill Bilcock,Working Dogs (The Dish), Romper Stomper, Wild Girls to name a few. Doug has recorded and mixed every album and live show for John Farnham since 1985, has worked with Kylie Minogue, David Bowie, Lenny Kravitz, Lionel Ritchie, Jimmy Barnes, Olivia Newton-John, The Black Sorrows, Dragon, Bobby Brown, Pseudo Echo, Real Life, Split Enz, Little River Band, Daddy Cool, The SkyHooks, Delta Goodrum, Tommy Emmanuel, Phil Emmanuel, The Seekers, Daryl Braithwaite, Girl Overboard, Del Amitri, Lee Kernaghan, Troy Casar-Daley, James Reyne, James Blundell, Chocolate Starfish, Big Pig, Uncanny X-Men, TinLids, Wendy Mathews, Ross Wilson, Tina Arena, Southern Sons, Debra Conway, Kate Cebrano, Seal, Johnny Ruffo, John Butler, Keith Urban, Brian Cadd and many, many more. Doug left AAV (by now Metropolis Audio) in the early ‘90s to work as a freelance engineer. He worked on numerous projects at John Farnham’s Fast Forward/Gotham Studios, before building his own recording studio in the late ‘90s where he recorded all the music for the Sydney Olympic Games. Doug recorded the Swing Sessions for David Campbell, David Hobson’s latest projects, Aaron Daniel’s Band, he has mixed Guy Sebastian’s DVD for The Memphis Sessions, Shannon Noll’s Live projects for Sony/BMG Music, Deep Purple Live, Horizon, and Ross Wilson’s DVD ‘Live at the Palais’. Doug has recently completed mixing Ian Gillian Live in 5.1 as well as the film score for the Hollywood feature ‘The Last Dragon’. Add to that countless local acts and Myer Christmas albums. Doug is also Chief Mixing Engineer for the TV shows The Voice and Dancing with the Stars. Though Doug Brady remains a master in the analog recording domain, he has been working with digital technology since its introduction into the world of audio. He became accustomed to cutting edge digital equipment and SSL consoles abroad when he worked in New York studios including Jimmy Hendrix’s Electric Lady Land. Today Doug incorporates the best of the analog and digital domains in his studio, and utilises a vast array of techniques from both to create superb sounds. Despite his immense resume, Doug Brady has always made time for unsigned and independent artists. Doug’s attention to detail and enthusiasm for recording and mixing is the same regardless of the project or artist. Doug remains humble and generous in his sharing of knowledge with colleagues and young engineers. He has worked alongside numerous apprentices and graduates and has inspired many careers in audio. Working with Doug will surely maximise the impact and effectiveness of your project. You too could be part of Doug Brady’s portfolio.
