When the Weymouth News and Braintree Forum moved into their current location on Washington Street, they lost the significant storage space they had at the Union Street location in Braintree. Knowing Purdy-Quinlan's passion for Weymouth, News Editor, the late Patsy Murray and Forum Editor, Cathy Conley, called upon her to rescue the files from the inevitable dumpster. The files in cardboard boxes w
ere stored in a barn built in 1818, until a leak was discovered, where some of the files were damaged. The files were then moved into the basement of the house, also built in 1818. In a recent basement cleaning, it dawned on Purdy-Quinlan that Facebook was a perfect place to share the photos. She put a message out to fellow Everything Weymouth Facebook members looking for ideas on how best to handle thousand's of photos dating from 1980 to the mid-90's. EW member Fran McGaffigan offered to scan the photos and share them with members. He was at her home that afternoon picking up two large plastic tubs filled with photos all carefully placed in recycled large envelopes with the dates that they appeared in the Weymouth News. A new Facebook Fan Page has been created "Weymouth News in Pictures" for all to enjoy. Purdy-Quinlan, has served on the Weymouth Historical Commission since 1998 encourages the community to view the photos and identify themselves or anyone they know in the photos. This Page is Dedicated in Loving Memory of Editor & Reporter Patsy Murray and Reporter Tom Henshaw - Icons of the Weymouth News! Also, in Appreciation of Editor & Reporter Cathy Conley, Reporter Bob Accardi and Photographer Tom Gorman. The love and dedication to the Community of Weymouth that these folks had/have is a testament to a Wicked Good Local Newspaper Team!!
