❓ What are the best practices for stakeholder engagement in Plant-based Innovation and diversified proteins?

It has been a long time coming, but our white paper - in conjunction with the Harvard University ‘GOV 1318 Great Food Transformation’ course - on the best practices for Stakeholder Engagement for Plant-based Innovation & Diversified Proteins is finally out.

The white paper uses the six prominent case studies

💰 Make it financially relevant,
🖥 Establish or join large and diverse stakeholder coalitions that use both insider and outside tactics,
📩 Escalate strategically and go beyond letter writing campaigns, and
🗣 Keep the pressure on.

We hope that this white paper can further the progress in current stakeholder engagement to move the needle for food systems transformation, food resiliency and stable food supply chains.

Samuel Pack Elliott (born August 9, 1944) is an American actor. He is the recipient of several accolades, including a Screen Actors Guild Award and a National Board of Review Award.

He has been nominated for an Academy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and two Emmy Awards. Elliott is known for his distinctive lanky physique, full mustache, and deep, sonorous voice. In 2015, he guest-starred on the series Justified, which earned him a Critics' Choice Television Award, and in 2016 began starring in the Netflix series The Ranch. Elliott subsequently had a lead role in the comedy-drama The Hero.

❓ What is the true cost of eating meat?

An article in The Guardian by Bibi van der Zee reveals the complex relationship between meat production and its effects on our planet and societies.

The food industry is a major contributor to

💨 greenhouse gas emissions,
🌲 deforestation, and
💧 water pollution.

🐄 According to a research paper from Nature Food, meat accounts for nearly 60% of all greenhouse gasses from food production, with beef production identified as particularly harmful due to the methane emissions from cows.

These environmental impacts pose significant challenges to achieving global food security in the long term, as they threaten the very ecosystems we rely on for food production.

That is the environmental cost, but what is the economic cost of eating meat?

💰 According to the American Institute for Economic Research - AIER which noted in April of 2022 that "the United States Federal government spends $38 billion every year subsidizing the meat and dairy industries.”

The subsidization of meat and dairy makes those products easily accessible for the average American, allowing them to eat more of it which in turn makes them sick.

🥩 The Journal of American Medicine (JAMA) and The National Library of Medicine link our major meat consumption of unprocessed and processed meat (bacon, sausage, deli slices, hot dogs) to heart disease.

According to a 2018 Milken Institute report, the $1.1 trillion in U.S. health care costs for chronic diet related diseases such as

🫀 heart disease,
🦠 cancer,
🩺 diabetes, and
😷 obesity

as determined by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), is actually $3.7 trillion when lost economic productivity is included.

The meat industry is destroying the environment and our health and we end up paying for it, not them.

Derinkuyu is an ancient underground city where thousands of people lived & thrived.
Although the Derinkuyu underground complex, located in Turkish Cappadocia, gained popularity in the 1970s, when Swiss researcher and author Erich Von Däniken revealed it to the world through "The Gold of the Gods", Derinkuyu had long been raising questions. especially among archaeologists in his country.

It was discovered accidentally when a man knocked down the wall of his basement. Upon arrival the archaeologists revealed that the city was 18 stories deep and had everything necessary for underground life, including schools, chapels and even stables.

Derinkuyu, the underground city of Turkey, is almost 3,000 years old, and once housed 20,000 people.
