It's so nice having the square whole again. The new buildings on the west side are nearly complete and they look better than I was afraid they were going to look!

I remember back in 2001 I went to visit Westminster College. My dad was an alumni he hoped that I'd consider going there. I didn't but I do remember one thing that always struck with me.
As someone from Fayette, I think CMU and Westminster get compared pretty often. While both schools are pretty similar in size, Westminster is more well known, they have more famous alumni, they have more money and better facilities.
But all that aside, I don't care what anyone says, Central has a MUCH prettier campus. The reason... TREES.
I understand why they need to do this. I really do. CMU is always struggling with parking and several of the trees are unhealthy and will need to be removed soon anyway. And the current parking situation isn't safe or efficient.
That being said, the city of Fayette threatening to remove parking from church street in retaliation is beyond stupid. The very fact that they are even entertaining this idea both saddens me and blows my mind. The phrase "Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face comes to mind."
Edit: I was informed that while the council will be discussing the issue, they maintain that they are NOT doing it as retaliation. I hope they continue to stay as impartial as they can.
TL:DR: CMU please don't cut down all 18 trees (or even 12), city of Fayette, please don't do rash and stupid.

Progress on the square and the new stop sign.

EDIT: Apparently I was wrong. Despite rejecting the change several times in the past, MODOT DID approve it this time. Not only that, it was installed it YESTERDAY. Lol, I took this photo last week. Thanks for the information Stephanie Ford!
It's worth noting that downtown Fayette got 4 new stop signs. The intersection of Morrison and Main as well as the intersection between Davis and Main are now 4-way stops.
Unfortunately, the one intersection that actually NEEDS it (West Davis and Church) will most likely remain a 3-way stop. Due to Church being a state highway, MoDot is in charge of that and despite numerous request, they don't seem to think that is a priority/necessary.

Sorry everyone, this is all my fault! I wished that it would snow before Christmas so that I could get some photos of the magic tree and the courthouse in the snow. For those out of town, it's -7 degrees out right now.
Of course as my luck would have it, the courthouse's lights weren't turned on today...

Anyone know who's dog this is? Looks like a beagle. He's friendly but very skinny. He snarfed down a handful of catfood like there was no tomorrow. Seen near DC Roger's lake.
