Hot shooting from the perimeter in the first half propelled Cedar Rapids Prairie's boys' basketball team past Cedar Rapids Jefferson, 86-65, in a Class 4A substate opener Monday night at Prairie.

Cedar Rapids Prairie got shooters like Jace McDermott open looks against the Cedar Rapids Jefferson zone, and the junior wing nailed them. He finished with a team-high 22 points, including draining five 3-pointers in the Hawks’ 83-65 win in a Class 4A boys’ basketball substate quarterfinal.

Linn-Mar’s Kane Naaktgeboren ended is prep wrestling career with an undefeated championship season. He became the Lions’ 10th wrestler to win a state crown and the program’s seventh four-time state medalist.

The final IHSAA boys' basketball rankings in Class 3A and 4A have Decorah and Cedar Rapids Kennedy on top.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Decorah were ranked No. 1 in the Iowa High School Athletic Association’s first boys’ basketball poll of the season back in late December. They have ended the regular season ranked No. 1 in their respective classes.
