ÌWÀ

“Olódùmarè has several wives,” my father said. “Do you know that?”

We were strolling back home from his writing workshop that evening, and I was seventeen. I always accompanied him to his writing workshops where he taught playwriting

I was a freshman undergraduate at the University of Ife at that time.

I was taking a university class on Ifa taught by Professor Wande Abimbola who later became the Vice Chancellor and internationally famous. At that time, the professor was not yet famous.

For the first time, Professor Abimbola was introducing us in class to the subject of Olódùmarè.

Throughout my primary and secondary school days, we learned about all sorts of foreign Gods, but nothing about Olódùmarè.

As we returned from the playwriting workshop, I began to tell my father about what I learned in the Ifa course from my professor.

“Did your professor teach you about the wives of Olódùmarè?” my father asked.

“No.”

“Ask him. The wives of Olódùmarè are countless. Anybody who came to Olódùmarè, Olódùmarè accepted. Ìwà, came, and Olódùmarè accepted her. Sùúrù came and Olódùmarè accepted her. Ajé came, and Olódùmarè accepted her. Àláfíà, Ayọ̀, Ìrètí, Àánú, they all came, and Olódùmarè accepted each and every one of them.”

I listened attentively because my father often spoke in parables to me.

“Even Ọ̀bùn, and Ọ̀lẹ came and Olódùmarè accepted them. Ọtí too came, and Olódùmarè accepted her,” baba continued. “Do you know the only one Olódùmarè rejected?”

I shook my head. “No,” I said.

“Àṣejù,” baba said. “Olódùmarè kọ àṣejù. Rejected her immediately. Do you know why?”

“Àṣejù kò dára. Àṣejù is nasty,” I replied.

“You are the true son of your father,” baba said, patting my back. “You too, in whatever you do, be like Olódùmarè. Reject Àṣejù. Accept everything; everything is fine. You can handle anything with everything, as long as you don’t add Àṣejù to it.”

I nodded my head to show my understanding of his parable.

“The most beautiful woman in the world is Ìwà,” baba concluded. “But once you add Àṣejù, everything turns nasty. May Àṣejù not enter our house.”
***
Iwa is the title of the final painting I completed this year 2023. I just finished painting it.

In the year 2024, may Àṣeju not tarnish our Ìwà.

May 2024 be abo (female) and not akọ (male).

2024 will bring us all sorts of great opportunities. We should accept them. But we must reject Àṣejù.

Those who understand this parable, please explain to others who don’t.

*LTV MANAGEMENT STAFF PAY COURTESY VISIT TO HRA*

Tuesday, August 29th, 2023

The management team of Lagos State Television (LTV) conducted a courtesy visit to the office of Honorable Rasaq Olusola Ajala, Chairman of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA yesterday.

During the visit, Mrs. Sola Kosoko, the station's manager, highlighted their intention to foster a stronger relationship with the council, building upon their previous collaborative endeavors.

Mrs. Kosoko underscored the significance of LTV's role in bringing grassroots activities to the public eye and facilitating feedback collection.

She assured the council boss of their unwavering commitment to broadcasting, showcasing, and promoting the council's progress.

Emphasizing their dedication, Mrs. Kosoko stated, "We aim to establish a productive partnership by addressing our challenges, refining our strategies, and enhancing our content offerings. As a vital indigenous entity, we aspire to fortify our position as a potent source of grassroots information."

Furthermore, Kosoko appealed to the council boss, who serves as the secretary of Conference57, to leverage his role and encourage fellow council members to engage in collaborative efforts.

She emphasized the potential benefits of such collaborations in enhancing the overall impact of the station and the group.

In his response, Hon. Ajala welcomed them to his office.

He thanked them for their job in promoting and projecting the Local Government in Lagos State by resonating their program with the grassroots.

"What makes any political party acceptable or the performance of any government felt is through various mainstream media, despite the role of social media," he said.

He assured the visitors that their message would be escalated to those who were concerned.

He promised to do the needful in the area of support for them, even though the local government is under the supervision of the state.

He encouraged the organization to create more content for diverse groups of people in the state, as there are lots of illiterate people who may not understand the English language as a means of communication.

He craved more documentaries on the activities of the local government because there were lots of negative reports from the print media about them.

He stressed the challenges local governments are facing as the closest government to the people.

"An average resident of the local government cannot distinguish roads that belong to the federal, state, and local government.

"Once they see any dilapidated roads within the local government, their point of call is our offices," he stated.

He appeals that the allocation to the local government is increased to meet the greater demand by the people at the grassroots.

"Education, roads, and other infrastructure are huge; hence the call for the review of the sharing formula among the tiers of government.

"If we have an equipped and functional healthcare system in our health centers, treatment of malaria and other common ailments need not get to the tertiary healthcare.

"World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a health center per ward; we need more funding to establish them," he said.

He used the medium to call on the people to perform their civic responsibilities by paying their taxes and rates to help the government fulfill their campaign promises.

He equally demanded that the people make proper use of their drainages by patronizing the PSP operators instead of dumping their waste into the drain, which the government spends larger amounts of money that ought to go to other projects to desilt the drain.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including Mrs. Sola Kosoko, General Manager; Mrs. Toyin Bamisaye-Oni, Manager of Current Affairs; Mrs. Modupe Alli, Director of Current Affairs; Mrs. Olabisi Ojo, Director of Finance; Mr. Wole Sanusi; Mrs. Abimbola Bello, Director of Programs; Mrs. Adebusola Akinwunmi, Director of Public Affairs; Mrs. Yetunde Olagbesan Amao, Director of News; and Oluwatoyin Ayanbadejo, Director of Administration and Human Resources Officer.

The chairman, in the company of his Vice, Hon. Seyi Jakande, leader of the legislative arm Hon. Rilwan Ola Ajenifuja, Councilors, and some Aides inspected the completed road rehabilitation on Fafolu, Shokunbi, and Akinbode Streets.

The council boss also engaged the residents on the need to take ownership of the projects by maintaining proper use of drainages.

"Clearing the drainages is the responsibility of the residents, they must visit the drain from time to time," he said.

Mrs. Tunrayo Akintoye who sells plantains on Shokunbi Street but lives on Coker Street was full of praise for the council boss for the rehabilitation of the street.

She commended him for various projects across the LCDA.

"We are very grateful for all the projects being executed by the chairman

"All we have to say is to thank and pray for him and his team to continue to elevate and be with them," she said.

Alhaja Mohammed from Coker Street commended the chairman for the various projects his government has been doing.

She requested that some portion of the drainage at Shokunbi be rehabilitated.

He counselled the students on the need to take their studies seriously as this will take them anywhere they want to go in life.

Very Soon The Light Will Illuminate The Dark Tunnel

SPEECH DELIVERED BY THE CHAIRMAN, ODIOLOWO/OJUWOYE LOCAL COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT AREA, HONOURABLE RAZAQ OLUSOLA AJALA, AT A STAKEHOLDERS' ENGAGEMENT WITH THE THEME ‘ CONNECTING AND IMPACTING OUR PEOPLE’

Protocols

I welcome you all to this very auspicious occasion. It is an August occasion in the month of August and I am extremely happy that you hearken to our call. Almighty God will continue to honour you all.

It is my birthday and I want to use the occasion not only to celebrate with you who have been my pillar of support, but also to interact with you, discuss and talk extensively on our post subsidy palliatives program.

Our intention, calling you here this morning, therefore, is also to inform you of programmes and measures we are implementing to alleviate the hardship occasioned by the recent removal of oil subsidy by the Federal Government.

Let me do a little bit of reflection here: the removal of oil subsidy is not a curse. Neither was it meant to inflict sufferings on the people, rather it was implemented to usher in an era of growth and development for the country. An era of equitable distribution of resources devoid of an hitherto situation where only a few wealthy and powerful individuals rule over our wealth.

In doing this and to achieve our aim of even development and greatness, we must endure pains but I want to assure you that the pains we are going through now will be temporary. Very soon, and I mean very soon, we will start to reap bountiful rewards of this seemingly hard but necessary policy.

Indeed, it's a tough period, but tough period does not last, only tough people do and I believe we will all smile at the end of the day, for us, the light at the end of this seemingly dark tunnel, will soon shine through.

As a government, we will not fold our arms and watch while our people continue to lament. We must complement the efforts of government at state and federal levels to bring succour to our people. In essence, we have thus put in place various measures to cushion the effect of this trying period.

We have thus, with your approval, through your elected councillors who will sit on the supplementary appropriation bill we are sending to the legislative arm and give us power of expenditure decided to put in place the following measures as our own palliatives program.

(1) Quarterly Trade Assistance Program( TAP) to support Petty Traders. We will be giving out a minimum of N10 million every quarter to the qualified traders. This money will be disbursed among selected Traders quarterly and is meant to support their trading activities. For this, we are targeting minimum of 250 beneficiaries every quarter.

(2) N250 million Interest-free loan: between now and the life of this administration, we are disbursing N250 million as loan to small scale business owners. We intend to commence this economy stimulating program with disbursement of #100 million on or before the end of this year for those whose business proposals meet the criteria of the selection committee. The business must demonstrate it bankability and ability to engage or employ at least one person apart from the owner who must be resident of Odiolowo/ Ojuwoye Local Council. This among several other criteria are measures instituted to ensure sustainability of the program, reduce the number of unemployed youth and enhance economic activities in our council area.

(3) Establishment of Odiolowo/Ojuwoye Traffic Maintenance and Environmental Corps( OTMEC) we are establishing this to not only to provide employment for youths but also to complement the efforts of the state Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC).

(4) Employment of Teaching and Non-teaching Staff: It's an open secret that some of our public primary schools lack adequate number of teachers and we have to agree that the state government alone cannot provide all the needs of the public schools.

As a grassroots administration, we have to complement the efforts of the state government where necessary and urgent. It is because of this that we have decided to employ teaching and non-teaching staff on adhoc arrangement to complement those already working in our various public schools.

We are not doing this alone. We are going to collaborate with all stakeholders in the education industry: the Parents Forum, school-based management committee and other relevant stakeholders. The idea is not only to provide employment but also to provide and improve on the basic education needs of our pupils.

(5) Employment of ad-hoc Medical Personnel: To support and complement those already on ground, we have concluded arrangements to employ medical personnel who will work on ad-hoc arrangement. The intendment of this initiative is to provide functioning Health Care System in our Council Area with the upgrading of Kajola and Ajisegiri Primary Health Centers to 24Hrs Facilities.

(7) Introduction of Monthly Subsidized Food Items: We are also introducing monthly subsidized food items for residents.

By this, we intend to purchase essential edible food items in bulk and sell to residents at subsidized rate.

Apart from this, we will be providing periodic free food to the aged and the needy.

(8) Introduction of Subsidized Transport Fare for Selected Routes: We are already discussing with some private transport company with the aim of reaching agreement on subsidized transport fare for some selected routes in Odiolowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.

My dear residents of Odiolowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, these are some of the measures we have put in place to mitigate the effects of the subsidy removal.

We cannot do it alone, we need your support, that is why I invited you here today to intimate you with our plans. We need your support, we need your cooperation and we need your prayers for our government at all levels to succeed.

As I said earlier on, these programmes cannot come into fruition without the concurrence of the Councillors. Therefore i have to thank our Councillors immensely for your support and cooperation that have taken us this far and pray to Almighty Allah to give us the enablement to achieve greater Odiolowo/ Ojuwoye Local Council Area. To the Exco Members, Management and Council staff accept my ton of thanks for your perseverance, commitment and loyalty. I appreciate you all and promise never to take you for granted.

I do not want to bore you with long speech. I have laid down, in clear and unambiguous language, our plans for you, I pray for your support, and prayers to give us success.

Definitely, we are confident that the light will shine through the dark tunnel very soon. Let us be patient, supportive and prayerful.

I thank you all for listening.

Hon Razaq Olusola Ajala
Chairman
Odiolowo/Ojuwoye LCDA

*What OSMAK stands for*

A leader's core values gain him nothing but popularity within his community. All his actions are tailored in line with his core
values because that is what stands him out among others and it is the symbol of his leadership. Every responsible leader must design his values.

*Did you know what OSMAK stands for?*
*O: Originality* - He is a man of his words.
*S: Sincerity* - He never reneges his promises to his people. *That's Akinsanya for you.*
*M: Manageability* - He possesses the aptitude to successfully manage all his affairs.
*A : Accessibility* - Unlike some leaders who close their doors to those who brought them to power, Akinsanya is a leader whose door is open to everyone.
*K: Knowledgeability* - Politics is no longer a mediocre exercise. It is the business of people of high intellection.

This is the reason someone like Hon Nurein Ayinde Akinsanya deserves our support to represent Mushin Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly come 2023.

Let's do it again
Vote Osmak

This is an electoral opportunity that guarantees quality representation.

🗣Vote wise, 👂my people.🙏🤝🇳🇬👊

𝙃𝙊𝙉. 𝙉𝙐𝙍𝙀𝙉𝙄 𝘼𝙔𝙄𝙉𝘿𝙀 𝘼𝙆𝙄𝙉𝙎𝘼𝙉𝙔𝘼 (𝙊𝙎𝙈𝘼𝙆), 𝙄𝙉 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙀𝙔𝙀𝙎 𝙊𝙁 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙋𝙐𝘽𝙇𝙄𝘾

By Abubakar Babatunde Ilyas.

Hon. Nureni Ayinde Akinsanya popularly known as OSMAK, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Mushin Constituency 1 has in no doubt been in the public glare recently in his constituency as he seeks the support of his people to return to the House for the second term after winning the primaries of the All Progressive Congress a few months ago.

There have however been stumbling blocks from some quarters to achieving his aim.

This piece, with all sense of objectivity, tries to analyze some of the complaints being raised by some people.

The major criteria for electing people to represent them is the trust the people have in such individuals, at least in his/her first term while performance is the measurement to support such for the other terms.

This piece is not meant to praise or eulogize the person in question but to throw some light into what the people may perceive as his unfulfilled responsibility.

While this writer is not holding a brief for him, it is very important to set aside what should be his responsibility as a representative of the people in the House of Assembly.

More often than not, people ask the question, "What have you done for us to make you think we should vote for you?"

It is the right of the people to do so because their votes were the vehicle the political officeholders rode to their offices.

It is worthy of note that Hon. Nureni Ayinde Akinsanya has done his best as a lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

While the public juxtaposes the executive role with that of the legislative, it is important that they realize that the legislators are limited to making laws, and performing the oversight function to see that projects are adequately executed by the executive while the executive executes projects for the people.

These two roles are often confused by the public to be the same, hence measurement and evaluation are based on them.

The other important thing is human relations.

While it is very important to have good personal relationships with people, the role of individual differences plays a very great part in our dealings with people.

While answering questions in his engagement with some youth in his constituency where this writer was a witness, he was asked why he often pulls a strong face, he however stated that it was his physique and nature that give that impression.

"We all have our shortcoming and weaknesses, those strong face you see is as soft as silk, " Adesanya added jokingly.

He promised to improve his human relation if elected for the second term.

His achievements in the past four years or thereabouts are:

√ Co-sponsoring Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Bill in the year 2020.

√ Cooperative Societies Law.

√ Lagos State Public Procurement Agency Bill in 2021.

√ Victim Assistance and Witness Protection Bill,2021.

√ Lagos State Government Staff Housing Board Bill,2021.

√ Lagos State Data Protection Bill,2021.

√ Lagos State University of Science and Technology Bill, 2021.

Apart from this, he has been involved in oversight functions and moved the motion aimed at curbing incessant building collapse in Lagos State.

Hon. Akinsanya has facilitated some projects for his constituency from the state.

Hon. Akinsanya has also empowered his constituent with mini busses (Korope) to support their families and provided boreholes to some Communities with generating sets.

He has also distributed free UTME JAMB to deserving students in the constituency.

For lovers of sports, Hon. Akinsanya organized an unprecedented football competition among the wards to discover talents among the youth of the constituency and promote love and unity among them.

As we prepare for the governorship and state Assembly election, we all must join hands to vote for Hon. Nureni Ayinde Akinsanya to represent us once again.

While he has acknowledged his shortcomings and promised to improve upon them, let's give him another chance to be our representative once again.

_*By Diipo Akinsete*_

We had street sports activities across the 9 wards with over 500 youth who participated actively in their favourite sports. The motivational noises and excitement that greeted every activity were massive and great.

https://www.akabmedia.com/2021/12/09/odi-olowo-ojuwoye-2021-beyond-sports-fiesta/

By Diipo Akinsete The concept of sports fiesta might be limited only to mean a competition where teams or individuals slug it out among themselves and a winner is declared at the end of the competition. A sports fiesta is beyond a competition. Sports has been a motivating exercise that…
