Rathalla Review Rathalla Review is a non-profit literary magazine that publishes fiction, creative non-fiction, flash in Creative Writing and M.A. in Publishing programs.

Our mission is to develop a community of writers, artists, and readers through our online and print publications. We also produce monthly podcasts discussing the craft of writing with established authors and blog regularly about related topics. The editorial staff comprises an ensemble of supportive and committed writers and artists currently enrolled in Rosemont College’s M.F.A. Rathalla Review i

s a testament to the partnership between these two programs as we blend the creative arts with the business of publishing and concretely further the program's emphasis to “push to publish.”

In “You Shouldn’t Move an Old Tree,” Leen Raats writes, “Jeanne kicked off her shoes and continued dancing barefoot. She seemed to be filling up with light; floating through the room. With a wrinkled finger, she stroked the woodwork of the window. The folds of her skin seemed to coincide with the woodgrains as if they had become one.” Read Leen’s short story and more in our Spring 2024 Issue. Coming in May to www.rathallareview.org.

Richard Dinges, Jr. writes, “Water drips from eaves / and from leaves onto / a yard covered by / a welter of broken limbs. / Their ends glow a faint / clean wood shatter.”

**SPRING COVER REVEAL** “An Unexplained Burst of Chaos Amid the Symmetries” by Bill Wolack will feature as the cover of our Spring 2024 Issue. Coming in May to www.rathallareview.org.

“The joy of collage is finding the endless connections between seemingly unrelated things. In some collages, the juxtaposition of ordinary with the delirious diversity of dream imagery forces the mind to make contact with the marvelous. Each collage is an invitation to view the world differently. What is most unexpected suddenly becomes as familiar as an old friend’s favorite song.

I make collages out of all kinds of materials. Most are made out of paper engravings. Many collages are digitally generated or enhanced. To begin a piece, I select some sources—either color or black and white. If I’m using magazines or prints or old books, I cut out some images or parts of images that interest me. Then I start working on a background or some other sort of chance construction. Much is left to fleeting insights. These are tiny miracles of inspiration. Depending on whether I’m using scissors and glue or digital images, each collage could take several hours.” - Bill Wolack

Correspondence regarding work currently under consideration will be sent out via Submittable a few weeks prior to our May release. New submissions and those not yet in-progress will roll over for consideration in our Fall 2025 Issue. Please direct all comments or questions through Submittable.

“Safekeeping” by Kat Hausler is available to read in our Spring 2023 Issue. Hausler writes, “She ran her hand over the white present bow, its familiar intricacy like a poem she knew by heart. Then, with the gentle clarity of slow motion, she noticed the shadow behind the box, bulging and tense like a held-in stomach.” Read more at www.rathallareview.org.
