Seriously? More than 43,000 people are willing to sit back and watch again this weekend as these folks (with two young children) will soon suffer in cold and darkness while everyone else eats, drinks, smokes and (at least) has power?

Are we really going to wait for them to be disconnected and all of the other "reconnect fees" to be added before we decide to get up and do something?
Why not do it now and save all of the added "fees"?

I always see people bragging about how they "follow the teachings of Christ" and "help others in need" and "never turn away when someone needs help" and, "will help tomorrow if someone still needs help".

Today, I'm *watching* as those same people pretend they don't see this poor family's needs with food and medicines going bad due to a lack of refrigeration on Monday. I'm wondering how they will talk, in church, tomorrow but, I'm sure I already know...

Do remember to change your clocks BACK one hour, tonight. (Or, make sure they change themselves.) Also, please remember that this will result in one additional hour of sleep for you and one additional hour between meals for your cats...

"For I would have you know, brethren, that the gospel that was preached by me is not according to man." (Galatians 1:11).

We do not have a responsibility to please other people because the gospel of salvation by grace through faith - by which we receive new life through our risen Savior, Jesus Christ - is not of human invention.

Paul did not conceive it, nor did the other disciples.

It comes directly from God - and He is the One we strive to serve and honor because He is the only One who has a right to judge the living and the dead.

Acts 10:42 says, "He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that He is the One whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead."

Have a blessed day. Love you.

🆘🔥 URGENT: Mom, Dad and Two Small Children To Be Without Power on Monday, November 4th. 🙏🔥

Mom and Dad both work. Dad lost three weeks of work due to an illness requiring hospitalization and emergency surgery. This caused the family to temporarily get behind on all bills. Mom's income alone is not enough to cover the bills.

Dad is now recovered and has already gone back to work with his first paycheck coming in next week just about a week after Alabama Power pulls the plug on their home leaving them all in the dark. If this happens, they cannot clean, cook, do laundry or refrigerate food, keep their children in school or pay other "basic survival" bills just as they are ready to get caught up. Obviously, this will throw them farther into a tailspin causing one, or both parents, to lose their jobs and they probably will not be able to recover.

🌟 Here’s How You Can Help 🌟

We see this every day. Every person, at some point during the day will "throw away" at least $1. Whether it's telling the "well-off" store owner to "keep the change" or buying a $3 soft drink and tossing most of it away. Maybe it's that $8 Starbucks cup of coffee?

So, of the 43,000+ people who follow our page, we’re asking 516 generous souls to contribute just ONE SINGLE DOLLAR EACH to help this family in need.

If you follow the teachings of Christ and you feel called to help, now is your chance! Of course, if you feel led to give more than $1, we’ll gladly accept it and apply what you give to their bill. After all, Alabama Power needs every penny they can get with millions upon millions of dollars in bonuses due to be paid to their little minions.

💡 Every tiny bit helps. No amount is too small!!! 💡

As a courtesy to this family’s dignity and privacy, we do kindly ask:

Please do not suggest community aid groups, churches, or organizations in the comments. They've tried them all and have been turned away due to their employment.

Please respect their wishes to remain anonymous. We will *not* be releasing their account number or personal details to anyone, for any reason so, if you’re overly concerned about scams, this is not for you.

We've helped local people in need for more than ten years now and our reputation is impeccable. We’re a trusted part of this community, and we value our reputation and our FCC licenses far too much to risk them "scamming" the public for the value of a power bill. If you don’t trust us, kindly keep scrolling past this post. Our goal is to keep this space entirely positive and we don't need rude, snide and/or condescending remarks, comments and accusations based off nonsensical imaginary complaints.

Dry weekend, showers next week ☀️

A dry weekend is expected across the state with highs from near 80 north to mid 80s south. A mix of sun and clouds today and mostly sunny tomorrow. By Monday, we start yet another change with clouds moving in over the northern counties. Starting Monday night, a chance of showers and maybe an isolated thunderstorm will be possible each day. Rain chances aren't especially high, but a chance of showers each day means keep an eye on the radar and the sky and pack an umbrella just in case. Highs next week hover in the upper 70s to near 80 north and the low to mid 80s south. We'll see if any one day shows up as being more likely to bring slightly more widespread rain, but a good statewide soaking to help with the growing drought does not appear to be in the cards next week. Highs may start to come down by the end of the week.

A tropical system is expected to form in the Caribbean over the next few days. Model trends suggest this storm may be headed for somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico. Waters are cooling right on the Gulf Coast, and strong shear should weaken any system heading towards the northern Gulf Coast, but it's something to keep an eye on by late next week for potential impact.

01/11/2024

Being poor in America often comes with a hidden cost that exacerbates financial struggles. Individuals living in poverty frequently face additional late fees, penalties, and interest rates that disproportionately affect their already strained budgets. For instance, a missed payment on a utility bill can lead to late fees that accumulate quickly, making it even harder to catch up. These financial burdens create a cycle of debt that is difficult to escape, as each new fee compounds the existing financial strain.

Moreover, the inability to pay bills on time can lead to further consequences, such as the loss of essential services. Many low-income households rely on public transportation, utilities, and internet access for employment and education. When these services are disrupted due to non-payment, it can hinder job opportunities and educational advancements, perpetuating the cycle of poverty. The additional costs incurred from these disruptions, such as reconnection fees, only serve to deepen the financial crisis faced by low-income families.

The systemic issues surrounding poverty in America highlight the urgent need for policy changes that address these financial penalties. Advocates argue for reforms that would limit late fees and create more accessible payment plans for low-income individuals. By alleviating the financial burdens associated with poverty, society can help break the cycle of debt and empower individuals to achieve greater economic stability. Addressing these challenges is not only a moral imperative but also a crucial step toward fostering a more equitable economy.

In addition to the constant strain of late fees and penalties, the poor in America face a host of “poverty premiums” that escalate their financial hardship. Low-income individuals often pay higher prices for basic needs because they lack access to affordable credit and competitive banking services. For instance, without the funds to buy in bulk, they may pay higher per-unit prices for groceries and household items. Those without access to traditional banking may also be forced to rely on check-cashing services that charge high fees, reducing their already limited income even further.

Additionally, many low-income households are subject to predatory lending practices. Payday loans, often marketed as short-term financial fixes, can trap borrowers in a cycle of debt with exorbitant interest rates that can reach upwards of 400%. The lack of financial safety nets, combined with limited access to affordable credit, makes it nearly impossible for families to recover from unexpected expenses, such as medical bills or car repairs. As a result, these financial burdens deepen poverty rather than providing the temporary relief they advertise.

Housing instability is another significant financial burden. Many poor families pay a disproportionate share of their income on rent, often for substandard housing that still requires costly repairs. Eviction is a constant threat, especially for those who live paycheck to paycheck, and can set off a domino effect, causing loss of employment, disruption to children’s education, and further decline in mental and physical health. The costs of finding new housing, including security deposits and moving expenses, add yet another layer of financial pressure that can push low-income individuals further into debt.

Healthcare costs also weigh heavily on America’s poor. Without adequate health insurance, many people delay seeking medical care until conditions become severe, leading to expensive emergency room visits and increased health issues. Chronic health conditions common among impoverished populations—such as diabetes and hypertension—become harder and more expensive to manage without regular care, resulting in medical bills that devastate already fragile budgets.

Addressing these pervasive financial difficulties calls for multi-layered solutions, including affordable housing initiatives, access to fair credit, and caps on predatory lending rates. Expanding access to affordable healthcare and creating supportive employment programs can also reduce the barriers that keep so many individuals trapped in poverty. By recognizing and tackling these systemic issues, society can work toward breaking down the structural barriers that hold people back, creating a pathway toward a fairer economic future.

Lingering showers north, clearing over the weekend 🌧️

Quite a bit more rain last night than expected for the northern and western counties! Some areas had more than an inch, and a large number of sites avoided a totally dry October by having heavy showers in the last 1-3 hours of the month. This will help soil moisture only a little as we're still in quite a bit of drought. To start off November, expect lingering clouds and showers across north and west Alabama down into central Alabama for especially the first part of the day. A few storms perhaps but probably not as widespread as last night. Highs in the mid 70s. South Alabama will be mostly dry with mid 80s for most. The weekend starts with gradually clearing skies north and sunshine south with mid to upper 80s for highs, continuing through Monday, but increasing clouds again north. By Tuesday, rain chances begin to increase again, and through Thursday could see scattered showers statewide with a mix of clouds and sun and highs from the upper 70s to low 80s.

A tropical system could form in the Caribbean by early next week. Too early to say where it goes, but no immediate tropical threats to Alabama for the next several days.
