Abi Millar is looking for something.

She grew up in an evangelical church, but after she lost her faith, she found herself searching for spirituality in other places. Torn between the logical part of her brain and the part that secretly believes in magic, and in the wake of a great loss, she wondered whether her crisis of faith was part of a larger story: at a time when more and more people in the Western world are moving away from organised religion, what does spirituality look like?

The Spirituality Gap follows Abi as she receives a shamanic healing, drinks ayuahuasca, delves into astrology, experiences an awakening in a lake, and attends an atheist church.

Written with great warmth, curiosity and humour, it explores our post-religious world from the perspective of someone who is neither a ‘spiritual but not religious’ hippie nor an angry atheist.

Throughout, she asks: how can we embrace ritual in our own lives even if we are wary of religion?

Available to pre-order now: the perfect antidote to the madness of the Christmas rush and the New Year New You merry-go-round!

To mark Grief Awareness Week 2024 we are pleased to reveal the cover on one of our 2025 titles: While The Music Lasts – A Memoir of Music, Grief & Joy by Dr Emily MacGregor

An illuminating, witty and highly moving story of making and listening to music and its role and impact on grief.

When her father dies, music historian and trombonist Dr Emily MacGregor finds that music has become too much. Listening, let alone playing, music is suddenly too difficult. This is problematic given that she's a broadcaster, writer and academic working with classical music.

Finding herself in this position leads her on a journey of discovery: from the arrangement of an Isaac Albéniz piece she finds on her father's guitar stand, through encounters with psychologists, orchestras, summer schools and funeral celebrants, to the lives and works of individual composers who wrote music so often in the midst of loss.

What is it about our experience of music that cuts so sharply to the heart of our emotions? And why is it more than any other artform painfully, exquisitely crucial in the evoking of memories?

An erudite, lyrical and gently humourous - this is a healing journey to rediscover the purpose of making and participating in music, available to pre-order now!

We are delighted to share that One Fine Day by Ian Marchant is now available as an audio book, read by the author!

A time-travelling, genealogical adventure, bringing pre-industrial, rural, eighteenth-century England vividly to life on the page, One Fine Day draws a living portrait of Marchant family life in the 1720s and how their England (rainy, muddy, politically turbulent, illness-ridden) became the England of the 2020s.

By turns hilarious and moving, this is a journey through English time not to be missed.
