We are delighted to share that One Fine Day by Ian Marchant is now available as an audio book, read by the author!

A time-travelling, genealogical adventure, bringing pre-industrial, rural, eighteenth-century England vividly to life on the page, One Fine Day draws a living portrait of Marchant family life in the 1720s and how their England (rainy, muddy, politically turbulent, illness-ridden) became the England of the 2020s.

By turns hilarious and moving, this is a journey through English time not to be missed.

‘Parker magnificently chronicles the America he encounters, a divided, disfranchised collection of states he fears for but comes to love for their generosity, community spirit and sense of hope.’ - Guardian

Frankfurt Bookfair 24, hosting literary publishers and agents from around the world and millions of cat, dog and cute raccoon books. There was some existential panic about the state of reading up against all the free content in the world in the lecture forums. The answer seems to be even more books of cute animals. (Frog days anyone?!)

Shahnaz Habib’s acclaimed exploration of travel Airplane Mode, out now in paperback, is written from the perspective of an Indian woman born right next to the Western tourist hotels and beaches of Kerala.

She is a bracing, funny, illuminating travel companion and her book would complement travels in Turkey, India as well as the US.

Habib warns against travelling in search of fake authenticity. The old town you visit isn’t more real than the new town you avoid. Although it’s almost certainly more expensive. The narrow purity of a protected historic centre isn’t more true to the place, or even to history, than the polyglot developments outside protected city walls.

The urge to move on may be in our DNA, but we can learn a lot from travel writing about how to attend to where we are, wherever we are, whoever is beside us. To witness and treasure every small difference. To participate in other worlds and lives. On the bus and the street. In the market and the mall. At the airport. Watching the seas, whether grey or blue.

Simon Parker was recently interviewed by Cycling Plus magazine about his bike ride through 11 American states on a mission to discover what makes the USA tick.

He shares the highs and lows of his journey, including his many encounters with not-so-friendly American dogs:

‘I was regularly chased by ferocious dogs – rottweilers, pitbulls and Alsatians – that are used as guard dogs for properties in middle America. At one point I had five or six of them trying to tear me off the bike. It happened so often I contemplated buying a gun – and plenty of people were willing to sell me one.’

These beautiful proofs are in for The Spirituality Gap by , coming in January 2025!

Abi Millar is looking for something. She grew up in an evangelical church, but after she lost her faith, she found herself searching for spirituality in other places. Torn between the logical part of her brain and the part that secretly believes in magic, and in the wake of a great loss, she wondered whether her crisis of faith was part of a larger story: at a time when more and more people in the Western world are moving away from organised religion, what does spirituality look like?

The Spirituality Gap follows Abi as she receives a shamanic healing, drinks ayuahuasca, delves into astrology, experiences an awakening in a lake, and attends an atheist church.

Written with great warmth, curiosity and humour, it explores our post-religious world from the perspective of someone who is neither a ‘spiritual but not religious’ hippie nor an angry atheist.

Throughout, she asks: how can we embrace ritual in our own lives even if we are wary of religion?
